I was kind of thinking the same thing. I don’t think any Rolex is hard to find. They are probably the most re-sold watch on the market

I would have guessed that David knows the market very well and is not holding onto pieces priced well above CURRENT market prices.

This has happened to ALL the grays . . . they had some inventory they bought high, right before the market turned.

You know what they did / do with it? They sell it at a loss and use the cash to buy watches at today's price that they can sell for a profit tomorrow. It's quite a simple formula. You can't make money holding onto inventory. You CAN make money pulling the cash out of it.

I’ve always bought sold and traded through DavidSW. Great service, even after the sale. Many months after the sale.

Hope his prices come down closer to market.

Hope is not a plan. Call him and have a discussion. No reason to assume that the website prices are best/last/final.

There are several trusted sellers here that you can check with if in search of a particular watch.

You just have to reach out for yourself and see. Good luck,

Just to close the loop on this one…I contacted Paradise Valley Time about the 36mm white dial OP that a member had put up the link for. That one had sold already but they were able to get me another one at a reasonable price in a matter of just a few days. Zac from PVT was great to work with. So add them to the list of folks that may be able to get you what you are looking for.

Just because he's asking $X for a particular piece, doesn't mean he won't take $Y. Ask, and you might be surprised.

Hope is not a strategy.

His prices are about $3,000 over retail for a DJ41 which IMO is way too much. How much do you think he would drop the price? Maybe a couple hundred, if that. He has the Air King 116900 for over $11,000 that's about 5,000 over retail. Hey, if you're happy with his prices, it's all good, but for my money I would not pay so much over MSRP. JMHO.

I have definitely bought certain pieces outside of DavidSW or done deals with other trusted sellers, but every once in awhile I get an experience that reminds me why David is the best.... take it for what it's worth, but I have never had a single issue with David after 10+ years, he's bloody consistent and to me that's what the premium (sometimes large, sometimes small) represents with him!

It's all good. It's your money and you can spend it anyway you want. But not everyone has a few thousand dollars to throw away on an overpriced item. Of course he has great service, but I'm not willing to pay so much just for the service. To each his own.

Imagine if the used car market functioned like this used rolex market.

How many of us would willingly pay above new MSRP for a used car?

It all seems absurd even if we are trying to normalize it all. . .
