Opinion on this gilt gmt w/damaged dial
Hi everyone,
This watch is for sale and I'm a sucker for GMTs but before I pull (or not) the trigger based on your comments...I'd like to know what you think. It's a mid-60s watch and there is clearly damage to the dial, maybe oil leftover from a previous service. The gmt hand is a big one. Sometimes the is damage that makes a watch prettier and the opposite also. Happy to read your comments, stay safe! Thank you! |

I'm liking that case. It looks either unpolished or really well detailed. Probably the latter, with such sharpness on a watch of that age. Maybe the work of those LA guys.
The dial flaws are minor enough to be visible only under magnification. Depending on price, I would seek to proceed with the usual due diligence if I were in the market for one of these. |

The case has been polished in the past. As far as the dial and hand lume being original - based on the pics, not for me.
Be very careful shopping for a gilt; many have re-lacquered or repaired dials, relumed hands, redone cases and more.

Thank you both!
Springer, so you are suggesting this dial might have been relumed? |

I think the seller of this watch is pretty well known and always disclose in the description if anything is relumed.
But that would not be the first and last scandal with a known dealer.

The lume and the hands match so perfectly it seems too good to be true.
I like the look a lot...so if the dial and hands had been relumed, and really well done, could you just factor that into the price? |

The watch appears to have been rebuilt for a particular look and affect.

Coming from a newbie in this matters I never though it could be a relumed dial and hands. However the stains appear only near the lume plots.
I looks great btw tho Thank you |

Opinion on this gilt gmt w/damaged dial
At minimum it has the wrong gmt hand for a gilt model. The oils stains are odd. I would wait for a better example. Jacek has high volume and surely a nicer example will show up.

I'm no expert but if I were to guess, it looks as if someone "washed" the old lime off the dial and whatever they used to do that damaged the lacquer. They then relumed and color-matched the hands.
