Any clean cotton type cloth will do even a old clean cotton T-shirt.

Just wash the cloth regularly with your clothes and use the dryer after. It will make the microfiber cloth super soft. Just do it once a month to remove any dirt on the cloth.

FYI….No fabric softeners and no detergents with perfumes for washing microfiber towels. Most fabric detergents designed for sensitive skin will work.

Diamond is the hardest known material to date, with a Vickers hardness in the range of 70–150 GPa.

Tungsten, which is Swedish for "heavy stone," is the strongest metal in the world.

actually micro fiber is made from plastic and can be made to be a lot softer than cotton - the thing is SS or no its not scratch resistant and i prefer to keep my watch largely unaffected as long as I can

Most camera stores and pharmacies have them for about a dollar to clean lenses. Not like a $20 version is any better.

I use those cleaning cloths that come with eyeglasses/sunglasses to wipe my crystal. Be careful with any surface that is polished though as even the softest cloth along with tiny debris can possibly cause swirlies.

Considering the watch I wear gets rubbed against shirt cuffs, coat cuffs, pants pocket seams, etc.....I just use whatever shirt I happen to be wearing usually.

Some independent watch-makers provide their own microfibers

Just go to any auto parts store. They have bags of the softest microfiber cloths designed to put a high sheen on car paint and clear coating without leaving those swirls seen in bright light. If they work on delicate paint finishes, they will not hurt your watch.

I prefer using cloths designed to clean optical lenses or camera lenses. The nap on some generic microfiber cloths are too thick and catch grit in their loops.

It’s the grit, aided by aggressive buffing, that cause the swirls. So the finest nap helps avoid that.

Padi, most microfiber cloths are not cotton. 70% polyester and 30% polyamide is pretty standard.

This one is super silky and could be an option for you.

Hi,

Many years ago, when I bought my Cellini, my then-AD threw in a complimentary Cartier jewellery cleaning kit. That included some kind of cleaning spray, a cloth, and a brush. And I've always stuck with those Cartier cleaning kits ever since. They'll work fine for any Rolex (or any watch at all for that matter), whether it's made of gold, steel or platinum, and whether it has a brushed or polished finish.

If you use a jewelry spray designed for precious stones and metals (such as might be in that Cartier kit), be sure to keep the crown screwed down finger tight. The chemicals in the spray could affect the gaskets around the stem.

Hi,

Good advice to be sure. For my Cellini (since it's one of the older pre-2014-redesign ones, and therefore isn't water-resistant) I don't use the spray at all, just the cloth. Back when I owned a Datejust and Day-Date I used the spray, but as you rightly say, always with the crown screwed down.

The whole point of microfiber Peter is that its NOT made from cotton.

a t-shirt would destroy PCLs. whether or not you or someone else cares about that is a different story, but a few wipes on PCLs (especially gold) with a t shirt and you'll have tons of swirls and micro scratches that are actually visible. learned that the hard way before

OP! Please trust me on this one.. DO NOT listen to the t-shirt suggestions, those suggestions are fine for submariners, explorer II’s, etc.. that is NOT going to be ok for PCL, precious metals, fluted bezels etc…

Trust me, do not go with anything other than this - and its in your price point

Microfiber cloth can only be so good. May I suggest though that you complement that with a good detail spray - that lubricant keeps the scratches at bay and is much more important than the microfiber cloth. Anything from an auto parts shop will work.

This is coming from someone who details his own dark gray car at least every month, without any major swirls formed over 7 years.
