Hard to tell if a daytona is over-polished

I was wondering what resources(online info) or signs will point to a daytona (116520) being over polished. It seems extremely difficult to tell as the lugs are polished and somewhat rounded brand new compared to say a submariner. The tach bezel seems like it could be a place to look for as the numbers would be worn down?

If its hard to tell if its been over-polished why worry about it.

I will partly-agree with this.

Few years ago I didn't even know there was a difference between a polished watch and a brand new watch.

So back then I wouldn't worry the slightest over being something that was polished or not. As time passed and my interest in watches grew, I of course also got more educated on most aspects of the 'world of watches' and in time learned what I wanted from the watches in my collection.

Today I would never consider buying a watch that has clear signs of having been polished.

Point being; had I bought an over-polished watch 8 years ago, and with the knowledge I have acquired since, I would likely not be totally happy with owning it today.

If you can no longer read the numbers on the bezel, then it's over polished.

Study pics from 116520's up for sale. Go back and forth between NEW and pre-owned pieces. After looking at a few hundred examples, you'll get the hang of it.

On a 116520 I would assume the easier tell is on the bezel and how sharp the numbers are.

You should definitely post photos, but the bezel is the first place to look and then look at the lugs as they might be a bit thinner than new. Just keep in mind the lugs are asymmetrical so the right lugs will be thinner than the left.

The bezel can be a replacement from Rolex, so you wouldn't be able to tell from that.

Looks good to me honestly. A Daytona has slightly rounded lugs to begin with, similar to the previous generation of datejust cases. Kind of just how it looks after a polish. It’s not like a submariner or GMT wirh very squared lugs to begin with

Lugs look ok, but bezel missing crisp lines, so polished. Over-polished is subjective and depends on your willingness to accept vs pricing. The cleaner, the pricier.

It has clearly been polished but I definitely wouldn't call it overpolished. Buy if the price is right and you intend to wear it anyways.

Case looks fine

Steel bezels are relatively cheap. Good thing about non ceramic bezels is you can just get a new one.

Looks like a watch that has been worn and looked after. All really depends on the price, credibility of seller etc. etc. Nothing lasts forever so at some stage 99% of our watches will be just dust in the wind......so I try not to worry about such matters as polishing and enjoy my watches for the but temporary time they are in my possession. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the comments, I noticed the bezel too (it seems slightly worn) but don't mind it too much. I don't care that its polished just want to be sure that its not something that really detracts from the watch(and would like it close to original condition as possible).
