What is the point of Wireless Charger ?
If you still have to put the phone down on the Wireless Charge? And it may even less convenient than the cable charge, since you cannot using the phone while put it on the charge !!!

Ok.
Hints: Place it on the wireless charger when you are not using it. Pick it up to make/take a call. Rinse and repeat.

Solves the first world problem of dealing with a cable/plug. Personally, I use one mostly on my nightstand. It is very convenient for those nights my wife is already sleeping when I come to bed, no searching for a cable etc in the dark. I just set the phone down and done. And, yes, you can use the phone on the charger if you use bluetooth head phone or speaker phone.
My new truck also has a wireless charger that was very convenient until I got a new case and it won't stay seated properly. Set the phone on while driving and its always topped off. |

I've been using a Galaxy S8 for the last five (!) years. The USB-C port is close to becoming unusable. Glad there will still be a way to charge it even without the cable...
Hope this serves as an example :-) |

My s9 has been in use for almost as long, surprisingly no charging port problems. Wasn't even aware there was the option for wireless charging. |

I don't really know what happened to my charging port. However, nowadays I have to find a very distinct position for the the "fast charging" to work. If it's not in the right position, the phone quotes 5 hrs of charging time... |

apple has battery packs that magnetically attach to your phone and wirelessly charge it, and they're not massive. there's your use case

And you can always replace the battery for $50 in less than 2 hours at Samsung service. Price includes a re-work kit which seals the phone back to IP68 standard. No data wipe required. How nice is that?

Phone ports are like belly buttons. They get full of lint.
This can make you think your charging port is malfunctioning. Simply take a blowtorch and clean it out. (just kidding) Make sure when you are using your wireless charger you take out your laser alignment tool and line it all up correctly. One degree off center and ..... Otherwise you phone could be dead next morning and you'll have to stay in bed for a few hours while your phone charges up.

My iPad is on a usb charger 24/7 and has been since I bought it 5 years ago.
I’ll unplug it now and let you know how long it lasts. 15:05 - 100% From Apple website: Lithium-ion batteries offer the benefit of having no “memory effect.” This means that the battery can be charged at any percentage, will charge quickly and can even be left plugged in overnight. When it's fully charged, the battery life of an iPad can last up to 10 hours.

It’s usually the heat generated by the wireless charging the shortens the lifespan though not the constant inconsistency in charging. Regarding memory specifically they didn’t used to think it happened at all. https://phys.org/news/2013-04-memory...batteries.html Maybe path dependent degradation is the better term than memory https://nuranu.com/factors-that-caus...es-to-degrade/ For what it’s worth my newer iPad Mini will hold a charge at idle for a few days. The larger batteries have more room for unnoticeable degradation. |

It is marketable and convenient for some usage situations, and, to a lesser extent, could be argued to preserve the integrity of the port (although USB-C and Lighting are both extremely durable in this regard). (It also generates more revenue for the producers of phones, parts, and accessories.)
That said, I use a slow, wired charger, as it seems to be much, much better for battery longevity. |

After being on charge 24/7 for more than five years (always connected to the usb outlet on my recliner) I checked the PR last night. From 100% to 30% took 7 hours of normal use. Apple state 10 hours so the this lithium battery hasn’t lost its capacity.

The charging port on my last phone became unusable. Now I almost exclusively use a wireless charger, even in my truck.

I am far from an expert here, so forgive me if my terminology is not spot on. (If I make an error here, please correct me.)
Induction charging is less efficient than wired charging, and it tends to generate more heat. Also, the extremely fast wired charging also generates higher levels of heat. The lithium cells used in cellular phones, unlike some other devices, do not have any form of active cooling. Lithium cells dislike heat, which is ironic given we use them in so many devices that get quite hot. Heat can impact their capacity and their service life (and, extremely high levels of heat, can impact their safety, although these devices/batteries are [usually] able to stop such a situation before a catastrophic failure). I have found that charging the battery at a slower rate with a wired charger results in the battery not getting as hot and contributes to a longer service life. So I use the slower 5v Apple Charger with my 13 Pro (the charging speed makes no difference to me as I am asleep when it charges). I've noticed even more positive results since Apple introduced the optimized charging, which presumably holds the charge level around the nominal voltage (3.6v I think?) until close to when the phone will be used, which reduces wear by limiting the time the battery is kept at its peak charge (likely ~4.20v?), which is a state lithium cells really dislike and age faster when kept at. |

My iPhone XS Max sat on a wireless charger everyday for the last four years, battery shows at 89%
