Great to see real world examples of the classic Rolex GMT like yours and Stan's. Decades of use brushing off everything thrown at them and still looking great!
God's speed in Afghanistan.

Yes Sir! It is damn near bullet proof! Had a scare while I was in Iraq. I was running in the dark and tripped and fell, My arm went underneath me and I landed with full force right on top of my GMT! Put a pretty big gouge in the crystal at the 1:00 position and a small scratch in my black bezel insert. I was able to smooth out the gouge in the crystal with a swiss army knife and brasso and then polish it with brasso. I went ahead and had the crystal and bezel replaced when I returned from my deployment.

Hi JD - you've got a great looking watch there. Mine hasn't seen any military service like yours has, but it has been occasionally 'roughed up' over the years - like surviving crashes in cycle races, being hit with a hammer, being dropped onto concrete, being jammed against a nuclear sub reactor head control rod mechansim . . . I could go on. These GMT's are tough old b------s!! From the UK - thanks for all you are doing out there.

Stan.

Make that 24-hour hand and letting RED, and you've got a nice alternative to the current C.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I have been a Rolex watcher since the mid 1980s and wore at least one since the late 1980s.
The classic Pepsi just never did it for me. I wear everything from suits to casual and the red+blue just never looked right to me.

At the first service for my 16710 GMT-II I have the NYC RSC change the red+black bezel to all black.
Slick black look of the sub, with the travel functionality of the GMT-II - perfect.

Then the IIC came out - WOW!
Solid bracelet, amazing clasp, date is anti-reflective, ceramic bezel - it is an a amazing watch and any Rolex enthusiast needs to add one to their collection. For full disclosure this pic was last month before I sold the 16710 and replaced it with a white Explorer-II (bliss).

http://strappedfortime.com/ is just 5 mins from my house and I bought several Hirsch bands from them. They are VERY nice and fun if you tire of the Rolex bands. Will soon put the red on my Exp-II. Not that Rolex does anything wrong, IMHO, but after 20 yrs of oyster and jubilee bands you cannot blame one for trying something different every once in awhile.

Grey,
You're preachin' to the choir brother! Think of that red carbon w/ a pepsi bezel.

Haha, your pics make me miss my Tudor Chrono (triple signed circa 1986) sometimes, but selling that bought my new GMT-IIc.
You gotta do what you gotta do

Without a doubt I know that one day that (big block Tudor Chrono triple signed) will be a very expensive watch.
