So, double six or triple six (SD43 vs. new Deepsea)?

Hi everyone.

Last year with the SD43 ref 126600, Rolex gave us an alternative to the Deepsea. Many among us thought it addressed some of the issues of the old DSSD and as a result made the DSSD less popular.

Now though, with the new Deepsea 126660 or "triple 6", do you think watch enthusiasts who want a larger diver than the Sub will favor this new DSSD to the SD43? Or is the single red destined to remain the darling for many years ahead? What do you say, double or triple 6?

Having just bought the SD43 for the exact reasoning you mention this was the one thing Rolex could do to make me think twice.

I’ve decided I’ll have to have both and already placed an order.

I’ll likely sell off a few other less worn pieces just to thin the heard a little.

for everyday wearing SD 43 wins easily. Most people won't feel comfortable with the DeepSea due to its thickness. It is more of a weekend/special event watch.

I brought the original D-Blue version and prefer it as a collectible piece over the 126660.

All things being equal with the bracelet/clasp/movement the DSSD is still comically thick which won't appeal to most people. The SD is thicker than the Sub but nowhere near the DSSD. When people buy larger watches they generally go for larger diameters and not thicker cases. SD is nearly the same diameter as DSSD.

Also, looking at the dial on the new DSSD Deep Blue, it seems more mass produced than the previous. The color fade from blue to black seems like more of a dividing line than a gradual transition. Maybe it's just how the pictures look on the Website, but I feel like this dial has lost some character.

I think the SD43 is the sweet spot for most, a hybrid between the DSSD and a Sub, plus, lot's are wondering when, not if, will Rolex drop the Red line which gives it a collector's status as of now.

x2. having previously owned a dssd...even with the updates...and at a large 8 inch wrist it was still way to large for a daily. the sd43 is a MUCH preferred alternative. still love the dssd however from a design standpoint just not for most.

I currently own both and I'm excited to see if the changes made to the Dblue make it more "wearable".

Having said that ... I still believe the Dblue would be more of a weekend watch just due to its sheer mass.

The Sd43 is the perfect all round diver IMHO.

Some inspirational material

would love to wear the dblue. its a nicer looking watch. the 43 did nothing for me on the wrist. I feel that half the people who buy are speculating on it.

slim down the dblue by 3 mm and it's the best diver of all time.
