Fat Lady Value
I have an opportunity to buy Fat Lady from a trusted seller. There are no papers, only the watch. As per seller, the watch is either 1986 or 1987.
The watch has been kept in the safety bax most of the time since purchase. Exterior condition of the watch appears very good. No knowledge of service history - I assume it has not been service as it has been is a safety box for a long time. I would appreciate opinions on the fair value of the watch. Thanks Timo |

The lume on the hands does not match the dial. Is this usually the case ? I have seen fat lady with box and paper going for crazy value of late. But I would love to hear expert chiming in

It is my understanding that the hands are original.
I have read somewhere that it is a common issue for 16760 Fat Ladys and 16750 watches. The dial lume darkens more than the hands. |

According to the original owner, everything is original.
I also read somewhere that it is a common issue on 16760 Fat Ladys and 16750 watches. The dial lume darkens more than the hands. |

Sounds like wishful thinking. The hands appear to have been changed at some point.

That's a service crystal too.

Can you elaborate more? Why do you think it is service crystal?

The original crystal on the fat lady was a 2mm thick sapphire with a beveled edge. It had a sharp edge to the top of the bevel. Service crystals after a certain date had a rounded edge to the top of the bevel instead of the sharp edge. From those pictures it looks like the rounded edge version. If you could get a picture from the side it would confirm either way.

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate all the feedback. Here are some pics of the crystal.
btw. I already purchased the watch, now I just wonder whether it was a good or bad purchase... IMG_7231.jpg IMG_7229.jpg IMG_7227.jpg IMG_7226.jpg IMG_7225.jpg |

Well from that angle it is clearly not the round edge service crystal.
You will find lots of folks here with very strong opinions on having everything match perfectly. In the end, if you like the watch wear it and enjoy. I think it's a good looking Fat Lady.

I think the watch looks nice overall. If the replacement hands bother you, you can get it colour matched by some good watchmaker.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.
Just based on the fact that I know the seller (original owner) and fully trust him, I cannot believe the hands are replacements. The watch has been practically unused for 30 years. The watch even has a green sticker still behind the back. The seller is 100% certain that no parts have been changed. Initially, I was hoping to get some value estimates for the watch. Assuming the hands are original and the watch is in mint condition, how would you value it? No box, no papers, only the watch and R hand tag Thanks |

FWIW, here is a picture showing the original dial/hands (according to previous owner, that is) and the service dial/hands he had installed on my 1985 vintage Fat Lady.
In real life, the original dial does not look nearly as dramatic as it does when enlarged and with strong lighting.

I’d say closer to $8K for this watch. The case has been quite polished too.

And I'm in between... its been polished but original... hands can age differently and in some pics its a better match than others.
