Vintage GRAND SEIKO 6146-8000 (1968)


Among the more sought-after vintage Grand Seiko automatics – especially with this rarer, early dial version, with the full “Grand Seiko” text – the 6146-8000 is also one of the more faithful examples of Taro Tanaka’s trademark Grammar of Design.



Condition

The multi-faceted case is in superb condition with sharp edges and corners, and an almost perfect gold caseback medallion. The cream dial, indices and all three hands are in unusually fine shape, with sharp dial printing and unblemished SEIKO and GS applied logos.

The acrylic crystal is in very good shape, and the original GS-signed crown operates perfectly for winding, setting the time, and for setting the quickset date.

The Hi-Beat movement is clean and bright, and running about +7 secs a day at 36,000 BPH.
