Air King 116900 Condition?

Hi, please can some of you experts help me with this?

Im looking for my first fine watch (my Omega was a gift) and having been saving up for many, many years. I now have the funds as nearing retirement and Im actively on the search.

Does this look good condition, lugs unpolished etc?

Full disclosure its from a great trusted seller but I am looking for some independent view points so I hope thats ok ???

Thank you so much for any advice you can give me.

The watch looks to be very good condition and I see it is for sale by DavidSw for $5775 and has a warranty card dated 12/2016. Personally I would hold out for a new one from an AD. The MSRP is $6200 you have your name on the warranty card, a full 5 years and the beginning of a relationship should you need service or desire another watch in the future.

I have an AK 116900 it was my first Rolex purchase and my AD got it for me in less than 30 days. Good luck with your decision. It is a great watch!

David has a good watchmaker who does a nice job but it is polished if that bothers you.

For the "small" price differential, I would buy new at an AD and avoid even a slightly polished used one. Even some slight polishing can look 'bad' in certain respects.

Plus you will be putting your own history (patina, scratches, dings etc.,) on it -- making it more "valuable" to you and whomever it is eventually passed along.

This is not a difficult watch to get from an AD.

Just my two cents.

OP don’t concern yourself too much with this ‘unpolished’ hype. A high number of ‘unpolished’ examples have in fact been polished. If it’s done well, there’s no need to be concerned.

Buy it from David. $5777 is his asking price. Should be able to get 5-10pct off. Mention the Forum and that you’ll buy a Pledge.

so is it a heavy polish job on the lugs or elsewhere vs a gentle refinish?

It’s a fine job. Looks good. The AK is a stout watch. Solid case and proportions. You’ll be fertilizer before you see any negative comments in the future.

I tried to get a discount on a ladies 279174 and they wouldn’t come down even a $100. I figured if they wouldn’t deal on a ladies model they certainly wouldn’t deal on a SS model. That was a couple of months ago and the watch is still listed on their site.

Call and tell David you know Chewbacca. Also say Happy Hanukkah. He’s best on the phone.

In fairness I don’t think it was David I spoke with but rather one of his employees.

He’s just busy with FedEx and stuff. It’s understandable.

I bought a sub from David last month. I'd recommend reaching out via whatsapp and ask what the best price is on it, that's what I did. I had the watch on my wrist the next day.

How do people have a relationship with their Ad? I bought a solid gold Daytona and a two tone yacht master II the same year and they still don’t sell me what I want when I want...
