Potential Scam: SPARTAN2161

I made a WTB post last week, and got a pm from SPARTAN2161 yesterday.

Very detailed descriptions and pics, and he is a long term member with many positive feedbacks. So I think it was a good opportunity to discuss.

But I first noticed those pics were from an auction house back 2018 and he claimed he was the winner and now looking to sell the watch (fair enough, because I would have done the same, use the pics from the dealer I bought from and more to prove my source also). Fortunately, the watch I am looking for is Breguet-style, with SN# on the dial side, so it's very easy to Google.

We quickly came to an agreement, and he even sent me Transferwise details (funny thing, when I google the account owner's address, it's like middle of nowhere in a forest. Not sure if it says something?)

Anyway I said since the pics u sent were back 2018, I would need to see how it's now, and pls set the time to 1:50. Hours later he did, he said he is taking the watch out for a lunch to enjoy one last ride. But this time, the SN# on the dial is completely different to the pics he pmed earlier.

And I later found the pics he sent 2nd time were the same pics on a Puristspro discussion back 2013.

I questioned him, but no reply yet. Up to now, I think it's a total scam. BUT I would want to give a bit benefit of doubt, since SPARTAN2161 has such good record of feedback and a long term member, so maybe got hacked?

i screened shot our conversation and pics he sent, so happy to provided

My account was hacked earlier today.

I have since updated my login, and enabled 2FA security.

I have been inactive with my listings, thankfully a friend notified me about this post.

Been on TRF for years with endless transactions. I would never do such a thing.

It's good to know it's sorted now

Here's the bank details scammer gave to me,
Account Holder: Nick Henderson
Account Holder Address: 53 Talmage Farm Ln, East Hampton, NY 11937
Account Number: 822000119958
Routing Number: 026073008
Bank Code (SWIFT / BIC): CMFGUS33
Bank Name: Community Federal Savings
Bank Address: 19 W 24th Street New York 10010

So I guess if anyone sees this account details again, then it could very much be a fraud.

They're not. They're getting phished by giving up their login details on a link to a fake website in a private message or email.

My account was also hacked ...

But I do not recall ever being phished for my details. In fact I am very vigilant about recognizing phishing scams & still can't figure out how my account was compromised.
Last month I tried to enable the 2 factor Authentication, i followed the steps & thought I completed the process. Than shortly after that I was locked out of my account & banned from the forum.
Its a mystery to me but very unfortunately the scammer using my account was able to prey on a trusting forum member.

Very disgusting & very frustrating.

The accounts aren’t “hacked” the users have given up their password to a scammer via phishing. TRF has 2 factor authentication available, all a user has to do is enable it.

You are right but the stakes are to high on this forum and people are losing to much money to often to let this go unchecked.
Extra checks and emails after a login from strange IPs, standard 2FA enabled (disable on your own risk), extra popup before posting a item for sale with a warning, and finally, adds that are closed need to move to a archive section.

I have been a moderator and administrator on a big dutch tech forum for ten years and to be honest, we did things a bit different
