5513 evaluation

Hello fellow watch lovers,

please see the 5513 on pictures, and share your thoughts.
According to the seller, its 1967 midel, model number and serial are gone due to its age and use.
I can read the serial between lugs, its 169xxxx maybe the case is from 1963
There are spots on dial, the dial is a later year from 70s.
There is no bezel, no bracelet.
My question is, how much is a "fair" purchase price on this piece.

I’m not an expert but 67 feels too early for a serif dial.

http://www.5513mattedial.com/Serifs.html

The engravings shouldn’t be gone due to age.

Sorry. I read that you know the dial is later.

You have a case without serial number and model markings, a dial that is later, a movement, a case back with 67 on it for the year. You don’t have a bezel, insert, or bracelet. You also have a later service glass (?).

Is the hope to acquire cheaply? I can’t see much to be excited about.

Presumably it’s worth what the movement costs plus the dial and hands, and case back as spares? The case doesn’t have much value in my mind.

169xxxx is not a 1963 serial number. I would place it at 1967.

I would consider this a parts watch, nothing that I would want to put any money in.

A fair price for me based on the photos is $3,000 - $4,000.

Is it camera angle or are some of those lugs bent?

Was this the one listed twice on ebay, recently? Sold for fairly strong money if I recall, both times. Seems to be a bitsa at best.

I'm not sure what you're going to do with it, but IMO it's not something to spend real money on unless you have a need for a 1967 case or a serif dial/movement to complete a project.

see my old thread - I was in a similar boat a number of years ago.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=569591

You can definitely source a bezel - I mean, thats all that is missing on the watch. For the right price, absolutely.

Indeed, I remember that, and some of the slightly imho clown-like perfectionist comments you get on such posts.

Perfectly nice watch now, and saved from the grim reaper :-)

there are some ayatollah of full original untouched stuffs for investments etc, and there are people who like to wear watches and enjoy it everyday.
This watch here is certainly perfect for the second category of people and imo it is a nice one. With a little laser touch up, this will look awesome...

New bezel and bracelet and this can be a very serviceable watch that you can enjoy wearing.

It has been put together with parts that, although not original to the watch, appear to be in decent shape.

Depends on what you want here. If you are looking for a high dollar, original Sub that you can put on display, this isn't the watch for you, and these are getting harder to find.

If you want a Sub that you can wear all the time, relatively worry free, this could be the answer. As to price, you need to be comfortable with what you pay.

Very inappropriate and selfish that the OP deleted the photos after members spent their time and energy to provide advice and opinions. This forum is not just for his personal use, members participate because they know the answers can serve as an archive for other people trying to learn.

Totally agree, Dan (assuming it's not some kind of technical glitch). I also got a PM for a personalized evaluation of this watch.

Yes, it's often enjoyable and interesting to share opinions about these old Rolexes, but it's for everyone's edification. In this case, all posted opinions about this watch are now meaningless.

Agreed. And what’s not fun is when the OP becomes combative and defensive…and ultimately offensive. This sense of entitlement that while the knowledge and information and insight are all free of charge here, there’s also the common courtesy of showing some gratitude and humility.

Oh, that's rich.
Interesting that on this post, and your recent Tudor post, both devolved into all the commenters turning on you and your attidutde?
Did it occur to you that maybe it's you that's bringing this on yourself?
You are incapable of putting your huge ego aside and appreciating that you started all of this drama by being stubborn, arrogant, and dismissive.
And yet, you blame us.

You weren’t always such a jerk, you can probably still turn this around if you want to continue to get everyone’s BS advice moving forward.

I find the advice here to be very helpful… the only BS here is your own.

Maybe your having a bad day? A bad week?

It's been explained above why deleting the photos was inappropriate. It's not a crime, of course, but it's bad forum etiquette, especially since you were asking for a favor from other members ... to evaluate your 5513.

Also, if another member (me) takes the time and trouble to separately evaluate the Sub for you after you asked via PM, the polite thing to do is to respond, perhaps with a "thanks," or "I don't agree," or whatever. Evidently, you didn't like my response, which was similar to the comments above.

I'd suggest not asking for any more (free) watch advice here with that attitude.

Lastly, just so anyone coming across this thread in days, months, years from now knows what the heck we're talking about, here are the photos below. With taxes and shipping, it sold on eBay for about $6500.

Thanks for putting the pictures back up swish77.

OP you should read a few more threads and see how members conduct themselves before starting another one.
