Job interview

I have my first appointment with AP in Atlanta and I’m a scared. I feel like I’m going on a job interview and don’t wanna look like a flipper and want to be knowledgeable about the models I like.

Calm down, just be yourself, dress nice and go with confidence.

AP boutiques meet all new buyers now so there’s nothing to worry about. It’s not designed to judge a customers worthiness but to understand their customers and learn what makes them tick, it also helps them to create a profile of which models you like.

I got my first AP recently (thanks to Ash on here) and they wanted to meet me first. It was all very friendly and nice. I’d spoken on the phone and by what’s app before but putting a face to who you’ve been conversing does make much more sense.

jesus, the world is getting crazy when people who spend tens of thousands are now nervous when talking watches at the boutique where they are customers.

wait is this for a job ? like to work as a SA ? or to buy a watch ?
i think personally i would be more nervous about the latter than the former.
and i actually have thought about the former. i figure, i work all the time anyway, and that could be a great way to immerse myself in a hobby i love, and hey, maybe even make a few bucks

From personal experience: no need to be intimidated by Atlanta AP. I have been a handful of times, never bought, but know the folks there fairly well (ie we have texted each other etc).

I forget how many folks they have there but by ‘appointment only’ you will likely end up with one of 3 guys.
One guy is awesome.
One guy is super nice but you will teach him more about watches and the brand than he knows.
One guy will seem like he is trying to sell you on a Code, a Ladies Datejust Nextdoor at Mayors, or a used car.

You will quickly find out who you are dealing with :) Good luck

You are trying to give them thousands of dollars. You have nothing to be worried about - they need your money more than you need their watch.

If you have the money why be nervous? 20-50k to some people is spending money. Do you think millionaires are nervous spending a measly 20-50k in their eyes? Is the sales experience making you nervous or the dollar amount?

It should be the other way around. They should be nervous as it’s an opportunity to instill a great first impression on you the CUSTOMER.

Unfortunately that is what it has come down to for brands like Rolex, AP and PP. For the hot models, it's the buyer that needs to do the major sucking up in order to be picked to spend the thousands on the watch.

And therefore OP is somewhat right to classify the experience more like an interview.

Sales experience. Don’t want to look like a sleazy flipper. Wanting the “hot model” the 15500 doesn’t help

Man, I get where you’re coming from but take a step back - you’re just trying to purchase a luxury good. This isn’t like getting your kid into a school or an actual job interview.

Go relaxed / upbeat and just have a good conversation with them. Boutique associates are people too and AP is just focused on getting their pieces into the right hands.

Tell them why you want one (occasion, professional achievement, milestone, just want a RO for its significance) - just be yourself, be genuine and it’ll work itself out.

The more nervous you are, the dodgier you’ll look; works in the exact opposite way!

Wow. I think you're looking at this all wrong. Nervous to go to a watch store and talk watches? This should be a pleasurable experience.

At first I was thinking you had a job interview.....

My advice is if you’re that kind of nervous to go and buy a watch maybe you shouldn’t go....just my 2 cents

I felt the same way when I went to the NY AP boutique. I emailed months before since I knew what days I would be there. I had my foot somewhat in the door as I had APNA send an alligator strap to the NY store to put on my AP 15400.
They were super friendly and after looking at what was on display and sitting and talking awhile, some watches appeared from the back. I felt I was getting the hard sell for a Code 11.59, but as much as I respected the watch, I explained they just weren’t for me.
I only left with a new strap and I don’t think I’ll get a 15202 I asked about with my initials on the rotor anytime soon.
But it was a bit nerve wracking for some reason. Yes it should be fun, but you probably want a watch they probably aren’t going to sell you, so I can see the anxiety.
Like maybe if I behave, they’ll sell me what I really want.
Just have fun and look at everything there that catches your eye.

Sounds like a Code 11:59 sales seminar.

It’s a genius idea to move those references more expediently.

Watch Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi episode first and you’ll be fine.

Make sure you practice the secret handshake, the one that unlocks the 15500 blue dial.

Anyway did you get the job? What’s the starting salary? Pension? Health insurance?

Oops my mistake, I mean did you get the watch

I wonder if all the watch companies use the same handshake for their blue dial watches

Slag Rolex off and make out you hate the way they treat their customers - they love that!
