Icon5 Speedmaster Questions for Uneducated

My son received my late grandfather's Omega Speedmaster from my grandmother yesterday. We know nothing about Omega watches whatsoever. I do not see a serial # on the case exterior and the back of the watch has the "moon writing" ie flight certified by NASA etc. Where can we find and purchase an owners manuel regarding operation and proper care for the watch? Any thought on where to buy an authenticl box for the watch as well as individuals/firms for service? Its a great watch that my Papa and his first great grandson often looked at and played with together when my son was a toddler. It has already become a treasured heirloom in our family and my son wants to get it serviced and restored to its original state if possible..
Any help would be greatly appreciated. PMs also welcomed.

Pics would help. Any idea of the year???

Once you have dated the watch, you can look online here and perhaps over at watchuseek.com and they have pretty active Omega forum. Most folks here - like me - are fence straddlers between Rolex + Omega.

Mods, I am listing the WUS link since they have always been so gracious to us during our occasional incidents. Hope this is ok.

Later model Speedys have a serial number stamped on one of the lugs, but earlier you need the movement number..

There are a few charts that can get you within a year or two (we have a sticky), but Omega can give you the age based on the serial of the movement.. Check the Omega website and their vintage interactive....
