Tudor GMT

I love my GMT. It has had the date problem for a while and as soon as I’m back from my trip to the Middle East I’ll be sending it in. It’s a June 2018 model.
After reading way too many posts about the issue here is my question and take on the fix:
I can’t find anyone yet who had the movement replaced have it happen again. Some who had it “fixed” but didn’t get the movement replaced did. Some who are unsure of what was done have had issues and others have not.
My watch will be going to the Dallas Rolex Center. They said a 5 week turnaround but I’m not holding my breath. I will urge them to put a new movement in but my guess is they will do whatever they want.
Any advice from those who have walked this road?

Happy to report mine has run flawlessly since purchased new last year.

Sorry, I can't answer your question and it seems RSC is ambiguous at best w/ their description of the "fix". It's a shame because it's a great watch and become one of my all time favorites. It would be interesting to know what percentage of owners have this issue. But that we'll never know.

Best of luck & hope it's back on your wrist soon.

Mine is same age as yours:-)
Bought in the Middle East, showed the date issue a month or two later. Sent to Switzerland and got back a month later. No report to what had been done but it’s perfectly fine since.

I bought my watch on the grey market in May of 2019. I have not had the issue at all and the watch has not laid dormant since I received it nearly a year ago.

I feel like this issue is similar to the Porsche 996 IMS issue in that it is blown a bit out of proportion.

From what I understand, they don't service the watch. They just put a new movement in it.

However, I may be wrong. Maybe Bas will chime in.

the IMS issue was way overdone just as the internet was coming of age. Perfect storm.

Lots of people on WUS have had multiple movement replacements and still have the problem. It's pretty disappointing, overall. Not sure what a watch owner is meant to do, except perhaps try to flip out of the watch.

Love mine. Was going to sell but changed my mind. Just can't seem tp pull the trigger on such a beautiful watch. Keeps superb time, too.

Mine has been perfect since the initial problem in July 2018.

I'm actually wearing it right now. Love the watch.

FWIW, mine has had the movement replaced twice already. The RSC receipts clearly indicate the new movements serials.
Still, the third movement had a failed date change less than 10 days after receiving from the RSC and wearing daily.
I had the pleasure of a long discussion with the RSC technician who worked on my watch and he seemed genuinely surprised as they had kept it some extra days just to make sure everything worked flawlessly this time.
We tried to replicate the problem by setting the date 1 and then two days back but after 8 days, it's working normally. It will remain under observation.
There is one report in the forum, of a watch that behaved the same way once, after a movement swap but has worked flawlessly ever since.
For the time being I insist in my assessment that the issue has not been adequately addressed. The movement swap will most likely remedy the problem but it's still not guaranteed.
Regardless, this is an excellent watch and anybody interested in acquiring one, realistically, should rest assured that Tudor will eventually make right should any hiccups arise.

I went ahead and sent it in two weeks ago since my trip was canceled.RUSA said movement parts were on a 12 week back order. I didn’t like the phrase “movement parts” but we will see what happens.

Minuteman’s story is very unlucky and I think an exception. Mine is a mid 2019 and has never had the problem. Has been a daily wearer. The problem only affected some watches. But what actual proportion is hard to say.

I wonder if the new movements Minuteman has received also have an early manufacture date from when the problem was more prevalent. The watch has become a lot more available during the last few months and many have been sold with no new reports of the problem that I have seen. For the earlier ones, the warranty covers it and is extended so I don’t think the problem is anything more than just a nuisance for the unlucky few.

I'm sorry you're having this problem, OP. It is, as others have said, such a great watch.

It's time for Tudor to step up to the plate. It's one thing to make a mistake--hey, we're all human--but it's quite another not to acknowledge it...or fix it.

Mine was purchased August 18, had the issue a month later. Watch was sent to Switzerland where it remained there a month. fast forward to 2019, I saw the issue manifest itself once, reseted it and didnt report it back. That happened like 8 months ago now, never happened agin, I'm not bothered, my favorite watch, still.
PS: Rolex Boutique told the movement was replaced, but who knows.

Tudor is clearly acknowledging it -- they're just fine fixing a watch with the issue under warranty (or not under warranty, according to a few reports), basically no questions asked. It's not like this sort of thing should get a press release or something.

It's also pretty safe to assume that they're working to fix it. It isn't like they can just snap their fingers and magically produce new movements without the problem. Identifying the issue, engineering a fix, producing new parts, testing the fix enough to be really sure, and then producing new movements (or hopefully just parts) takes time.

Rolex is good about fixing stuff like this even after warranties expire, so GMT owners will almost certainly be made good sooner or later.

So instead of 5 weeks it is 5 months. Got the message today that they finally received a new movement from Tudor and it will be on my wrist next week!
Prayerfully hoping all will be well!

Glad you are getting it back. You are most likely a victim of bad timing since the COVID thing hit right after you took it in.

Why you selling it? Date issue came back after the movement swap?

There are guys that have sent it in 3-4 times now and still has the problem. They eventually just sold it off.
