Omega Speedmaster should the large second hand always be running?

Hello, I have finally decided on the Speedmaster, 38mm. Could someone tell me if the large second hand should always be activated or only running when you are using the chronograph to time something. I have heard that you should only run the large second hand when you are time something but I have also heard it doesn't matter and running the large second hand all the time will not harm the watch.

Thank you all for your assistance

It doesn't matter either way. Just somewhat affects the power reserve.

Run the chronograph to time events, and leave it off when you're not doing that. This is how chronographs are meant to be used, so use it like that.

It's a personal choice for any chronograph reference , 35 years ago I didnt tneed to use the larger second hand . But time moves on ( excuse the unintended pun ) & today I can only see the second, minutes & hour hands without glasses .

I'm with the op. Had my speedy since Jan. Love the watch but don't want to baby it. Today took the decision to run the Chrono full time.

Still wonder on the extra wear etc but the large hand looks good running around the large face. I'm from the generation that takes a quick look at a watch to see a second hand running to confirm it is working. Also no confusion with the hour hand.

I'll see how it goes, but all covered under warranty if things wear prematurely I suppose? Although read on this forum as not advised nobody has actually confirmed any extra wear etc. Be good if a watch repairer could comment on seeing wear on the works of a watch with long time Chrono running?

No, it's a stopwatch function, why be redundant.

There have been in-depth threads on this in other forums. You will be sending that watch a lot sooner for service if you constantly run the Chronograph function. I am not saying the watch is going to break all of a sudden but it is not good for the longevity.

I was thinking about the same thing before and after I purchased my watch. I really wanted to use the Chrono function as a second's hand but decided against that after research.

I use my timing hand for timing. I like my super smooth second hand, and also like it when some people look at my watch, they think it's broken. Lol
