Anyone had a 2nd LASIK or PRK procedure?

I had LASIK done about 20 years ago and my vision remained 20/20 for about 18 years and has slowly become worse. Over the last year, it has become apparent I need glasses to see near and far. I am looking into having LASIK re-done or a PRK correction but concerned about having it done at 50 years old as well as the recovery of it being the second procedure.

Of course I am seeking professional medical advice outside TRF, just looking to hear first hand experiences.

No direct advice. Have a buddy a few years older than me (he’s 47) and he had it done twice. Was blind as a bat before and swears by it. I’m still on the fence myself but hate wearing glasses.

LASIK or PRK? I'm not gonna lie, I don't have anxiety or fear of too much stuff at all, but I almost got off the table the first time and walked out, lol. It's going to take a lot of self motivation (or sedatives) for #2!

I had PRK done about 17 years ago and I've never gone back.

While it helped me to see 20/20 for awhile and assisted in securing a pilot slot coming out of the Academy, it didn't last long enough to warrant going through the pain again. I went right back to glasses relatively quickly.

You couldn't pay me enough to go through that feeling of having something stuck in my eye for over a year.

I’m out of the loop but are they able to successfully do both near and far now.

A while back it was one or the other.

I had near and far corrected to 20/20 twenty years ago. Granted, I went into the procedure with no guarantee it would correct both, but it did.

Interesting, I am at about 17 years now as well LASIK, not PRK… no issues, vision still great. Also really had almost no discomfort by the day after the surgery.

That being said, my mother originally had PRK went for a second round after her vision started getting worse (over age 60), and all went well.

The thought of anything getting near my eyeballs scares the crap out of me … I’ll stick to glasses when I need them

I had PRK in both eyes and within 12 months I needed a booster PRK in one of them. I see 20/20, and have since I did it, 8 or 9 years ago. Recovery from PRK is hell. If I needed to get corrective surgery again and could have Lasik I would, but not PRK. Because of glaucoma I can't have Lasik.

I'm almost 40 and have been wearing glasses and contacts for 25+ years. I've always kind of enjoyed having different glasses to wear and never really felt the need for corrective surgery but that is changing not I am starting to need reading glasses. I have been near-sighted but the far-sightedness is starting to creep in.

I am going to start looking into a consultation.

I know that doesn't help the OP but I wanted to join the conversation.

When I had it done initially, I was wearing glasses and working as a police officer in SC. Every time I got out of my car, my glasses would immediately fog up and be set on the hood of my car. I thought, there must be a better way!! As stated above, I really hated the process (the idea, in all actuality, it was painless).

It gave me such anxiety, I had thought I would just wear glasses if it ever changed as I can't imagine doing that again, lol. Well, fast forward many years and evolutions of lasik technology. My wife had it done a few years ago and was amazed when she walked out of the office, she said it was like going from a low definition tv to high def. She said even colors looked different to her. That was not my experience with the old technology in 2000; I had blurry vision with extreme halos for a week. She sat up from the table after the procedure with 20/15. These results kind of made me reconsider the glasses option, even though I am now retired and could easily wear them.
