Which watch in your collection you will never sell and which one will go eventually!

I am a middleclass man so I do not have a mega collection like some members here. Everytime I fancy a new time piece, I have to sell one from my collection. What I find over the years, it gets more difficult to find one that I definitely not in love but there are more and more watches I fancy since I discover this website and learn more about watches from other brands! More alarming is they are more expensive than Rolex such as AP, PP and VC

Watches that I will never sell
1. SubC (A perfect sports watch)
2. A 1940s Omega Seamaster and Rolex Precision (They belong to my grandparents before they passed away)
3. Seiko Diver (Gift from my mother when I got a place to study at my local university)
4. Explorer 114270 (I bought this for my mother-60th birthday)
5. Patek 5127G (Perfect watch for me to wear to work)

Watches which I might part exchange to a newer version (Speculation)
1. White/black SS Daytona (Which one I part will depends on which dial I am going to get when the new ceramic ss version comes out-maybe 2013)
2. Patek 5711 G/R (Same with the 5711 which one leave my collection will depends on whether Patek will replace the 5711 in 2016)

Watches that I will definitely sell
Tudor Hydranaut Blue pearl dial (I will wear the Sub C more if I sell this watch) May consider keeping this as a gift to my son when he go to college

Watches that I 'wish' to acquire but got no fund for them
1. AP 15300 RG Black dial
2. VC Overseas RG

I'll never sell my Sub' after 30 years waiting to get it. In fact, I've made my wife promise that when I drop dead she'll have it re-sized and wear it to remember me by!

Also, I have an early 60's Sully which is ruby and diamond studded on the dial instead of markers for the hours (sounds a bit blingy but it's not) that was my GrandFathers last watch. I acquired it from my Aunt and though it had been static for twenty odd years, a quick wind and it was away! I had it serviced (which cost more than the watch is worth probably) and a new strap and I wear it with pride.

I also have my wifes GrandFathers watch : a MuDu which is a lovely old thing and will again stay with us.

However, I have a few watches that I will sell in the coming months: Seikos and Chr Wards among them.

I will not sell any one that is in my collection. But law of averages surely will catch up without warning! Let us see.....!

Most of my current pile: 14060, gold DJ, 50's TOG, GP 7000, GP 7050, ML moonphase, ML jour et nuit, 60's GP chrono, Enicar Sherpa, Speedy.

Never selling: the 50's TOG was my father's, ML jour et nuit.

Probably selling: Speedy Pro, 1966 gold DJ, ML 38mm moonphase. All three either don't get any wrist time or they don't fit my watch needs anymore.

I have just one good watch... my Explorer II Polar 216570. I never plan to sell it and it's already been pledged to my 19-year-old son when my time comes. Family heirloom. So I wear it everyday and everywhen and everywhere in order to make it even more special for him. Plus it's an awesome watch and I just like wearing it.
I can afford more watches but I figure, for me personally, that this is more than enough.

If someone offers me double what I paid for a watch the day after I bought it, it is gone.

If someone offers me double what I paid in twenty years after the watch has doubled in price, it isn't going anywhere.

If I'm tired of a watch and/or I am upgrading, then I'll sell for a loss. I have never bought a watch I didn't like, but I can only wear so many watches and my tastes have grown more subtle lately.

My Sub C is a keeper.... At least till a new Sub is released and we shall see.

I'm fighting to keep my polar 216570 while persuing my "grail" noir 116520.

If i can have all 3 at the same time i'll be a happy man. If I drop dead, dad gets the expII, mom the Daytona and sis gets the sub

Consumer, not collector!

Every watch at some point is a sale...to fund the latest and greatest!

I guess I'm a manufacturers' dream

Ditto that thought, very impressive. I'm down to three, my WG DD, my 114270, and GMT II C. Doubt if I'll part with any of them.

For me, three or four quality watches will be enough.
No. 3 is already planned and that leaves the rest of my life for anything else that really takes my fancy. Maybe a nice IWC Portuguese.
I will never sell any of the 'chosen few'.
I am the sort of person who, if I like something, I really like it.
Boring, heh?

I'd like to say all of mine are keepers, but in reality, some will go as my tastes changes. For me, the first ones that will go are the SS models that I don't wear much these days, daytona, milgauss and sub. The SS GMT and the gold/pt watches are getting all the wrist time these days, the rest don't see the light of day at the moment ...

Nothing is forever, but I have no intention of selling my vintage Rolex. Red sub 1680 and gilt 1675 GMT are keepers. Got another coming in soon as well, so we'll see about that.

Speedmaster Pro ST 145022, Seamaster Pro 2254, and the Submariner 14060 can go.

Submariner 16610 LV, and Daytona 116520 (black) are the keepers.

Herbie 911 - if you dont mind me saying

there's nothing 'middle class' about your collection at all...each to his/her own and no justification necessary IMHO

I went through a culling exercise a few months ago.

Sold all the ones I never wore

down to the ones that get worn regularly and couldn't be happier

you've got a sweet collection but if i had to i'd get rid of the pedestrian stuff like the ss ones you mention...

if you can pull off the gold then they're all you need..
