New to the Forum...First Real Post...Rolex GMT 18k rootbeer?

I inherited a few nice watches from my father. This one is particularly special. I recently had all of them serviced with a master certified rolex watchmaker and just got them back. He told me I had special pieces. Can anyone tell me more about this one? I had a crocodile strap made for it, so the 18k jubilee bracelet is not shown. Its probably from the early 1970's according to my mom. I've never seen a two tone "rootbeer" (?) bezel on a 18k GMT with nipple dial. The rolex guy said it's original and very rare, but I don't know vintage like you guys do. So anyway, here are some macro shots I took this evening. Any comments or information on model or history are appreciated. My father wore this and a red sub mostly. I'm not a huge fan of gold, but this watch was transformed after I put it on the band.

Here are some pictures from my iPhone from when the watchmaker opened the caseback to show me it's beating heart.

Hello Songhong!

Welcome to TRF! I wish you´ll enjoy so much this place.
Your GMT gold is gorgeous. I love the use of a gold case watch with a nice leather/croco set of straps. It is visualy classic and ellegant.
I guess it will look fantastic too, with its original gold Jubille bracelet, though very flashy indeed.

You may see the serial number between lugs and also the exact reference number. One at six, the other at twelve. With this data, its fairly easy to establish a more or less approximate year of making of your watch, and exact model.

I wish you´ll enjoy your collection of watches, and may be you will be able to post more photos of your other pieces soon.

Best cordial regards, Abel.

That is a beauty - and the crocodile strap sets it off a treat!

Welcome! You're right, very special. That last pic is a killer shot, can't wait for more pics on the jubilee.

Welcome to TRF! That watch is beautiful and the pics are great. I personally have never seen the 18K model with a two-tone bezel either. Perhaps your Dad had it replaced at one point. The watch is definitely from the 70s.

The first round of Rootbeers came with the Rolex crown in gold (on the dial) and around 1977 or so, they switched to imprinted crowns on the dials.

I have a 6.1 Million two-tone that I love.

I assume you have the box and papers right?

Enjoy the watch in good health!

Thanks for the early feedback. When the babies are in bed and I get a few more minutes to take pictures, i'll try to snap shots of lugs and the numbers.
If I remember, i'll also try to take pictures of the 18k jubillee bracelet as well. I really like the watch on the strap as well.

It looks very nice with the croc strap. However, that watch is an amazing stunner with the 18k jubilee bracelet on.

Very nice GMT !

Which jubilee bracelet do you have? Is ita "SuperJubilee," witha hidden (crown) clasp or the "clam shell - folded blade - buckle" ??

Thanks,
Randy

My guess is that it might be a clam shell folded clasp. The ones I've seen before came with that type.

Good question...i'm not sure, although my last memory of it is that it doesn't have the same clasp as the sub. I believe the bracelet when folded looks the same with only a small rolex crown. When I get home I'll check and take pics.

So it does look like this:

(PC = dP)

I bought an all gold GMT in 1980 and it came with a SuperJubilee bracelet like the one pictured above, except in 18k glorious yellow gold !...

That is one very sweet looking GMT, and the bracelet looks in amazing condition for its age.
