I'm new to this forum but got into it because of an old watch that has beenhanging around in the family since it was new (about 1953). The watch was my fathers and I inherited it on his passing.
The watch is a 6200 Oyster Perpetual with a number in the spot where the serial number should be of 32181. It does not have Submariner written on the dial but does have the 3, 6, 9 numbers on the dial.
I have been told that it is not a Submariner but is a forerunner to it. I don't know what it is worth but if you have any thoughts on it please let me know.

You are missing a bezel or bezel insert. The watch is one of the very first submariners produced I believe in the 50's.

This is a Submariner, but it's missing the bezel insert. It was produced in 1954 and was the first Sub model to feature "Mercedes" hands and had a "big" crown. This one also has a rare Explorer-type dial. I am not sure if all of these dials were marked "Submariner"...

It is likely pretty valuable, and looks to be in nice shape, even without the bezel insert (which can be replaced), so take care with it. I would recommend entrusting it to a specialist such as Bob Ridley (www.watchmakers.com) for some TLC.

Is the tube different from the twinlock tube ?

I found this website and it has a very good history of the Submariner.The article says that the first Submariner to be produced by RWC was the Model 6200. The whole history is outlined and discussed on this site.
