THANK YOU

Why would knowing how many people appreciate a comment/advice be a "good" thing?

Who's counting?

Most people would appreciate to know and it would be good for them
some wouldn't obviously

as many people would like it, and the ones who didn't could ignore it, its a win win situation

It's a nice feature that I have seen elsewhere. But again, what's the point of a post count?

Great idea: confirmation that no one "likes" my posts.

To establish how established a member is for the purposes of buying and selling. I would be more comfortable wiring money to a member with a 30K post count than a member with a post count of 30.

THANK YOU
Because the purpose of a discussion forum is to discuss.

If you want to "like" things there is another website for that

The feature was added to other sites to attract and maintain users. It's an addictive feature. It also creates a mindset that causes people to adapt their behavior to accumulate more likes. In most cases, the behavior becomes much more juvenile.

I agree - the very next feature would need to be a like bot & dislike filter.

Your point on the psychology is spot on.
I LIKE IT.

There...I said it.
