Selling to Bob's Watches
I know, I know. Not the greatest choice. Given that I've decided to accept their offer, I want to know if anyone else has been thru their process.
They are asking me for a driver's license number and date of birth for a "police report". They claim that this will be provided to their local PD and somehow this will allow them to verify that my watch is not stolen. 1. Has anyone else had this asked of them? 2. How the hell would this information be useful to them to determine a stolen watch? Is it simply to file a police report to state a sale has been made so that there is a paper trail? |

It’s a deterrent and a bit of CYA, so theyre not accused of knowingly receiving stolen property. And if it is later determined stolen, the cops will know where to find you and Bobs then can try to recover their loss. Pawn shops do the same.

I'm still at a bit of a loss as to how this covers their ass as to if a watch was stolen property. What exactly goes on the police report? Has anyone else experienced the same with Bob's?

I have heard of buyers getting screwed buying a stolen watch; not knowing it was stolen; sending in the form; the pawn detectives show up and confiscate to return it to the rightful owner... and insurance policy wouldn't cover it.

Absolutely. It’s just a hedge to mitigate risks.

Ah I see. This explains it further. I bought the watch from DavidSW so... I hope no surprises lol. Since I'm not the original owner and let's say it turns out it is stolen, they're not going to come after me, right?
