Daytona waiting list success stories

Hi All,

I just put myself on the waiting list for a SS Black dial Daytona at my local AD.

I am not sure if this will bear fruit, but wanted to hear from fellow members about their waiting list stories.

Looking forward to other's contributions

Thanks

lucky to even get on the list, here in the U.K most lists are closed (unless you spend stupid amounts of money)!

No waiting list here. I paid the premium, wore it for 8 months and sold it for what I paid for it. I just waited three months for a 116519LN. No premium paid there.

I would say be prepared for an emotional roller coaster. So like one week before Baselworld 2016 on the Rolex website was a silhouette of what I knew was the ceramic daytona. So I went to my local AD the Saturday before. Showed them these 2 pictures and told them to put me on the list.

The 2nd pic is the monochrome prediction which turned out to be spot on. So the day of Baselworld I woke up and saw that Rolex did it! I went to the AD as soon as they opened to confirm that I was #1 on the list. They confirmed to me that I was. Once I saw the incomings on TRF I was told I would have it by July 2016. July came and then all of a sudden I was told hopefully I will get it within the next year. Smh. I was pissed. But good thing I didn’t put all my eggs in one basket. I was on a total of 5 waiting lists. 1 AD stayed true to their word. I passed on a black dial from an out of state AD January 2017. That AD told me when they get the white dial it would be mine. I got my white dial from that same out of state AD August 2017. I paid MSRP w/ no sales tax. Even bought my salesperson a bottle of Macallan 18 to show my appreciation for him keeping his word. When I got my daytona I went to the local AD that told me I was #1 to have them size it for me. Lol. It is doubtful that they will ever get my business again. I will stay loyal to that out of state AD that came through for me. For most people the road to this watch at MSRP is not an easy one. Just hang in there. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later. It should be noted that I did have a purchase history with that out of state AD that came through for me.

This is a tough one - on multiple lists for white and don’t have squat

Here are some photos of one week old Daytona 116500LN

It is a beautiful watch indeed. And seems to serve well in snowy and high altitude conditions

When the SS Daytona C models were introduced at the March 2016 Baselworld show, I immediately texted my sales associate, who was in attendance at the show, lol, and asked if he could get me one. I didn't really specify a dial color, but having previously owned both the black & white SS 116520 Daytonas, I already appreciate the aesthetics of both, and I knew that I could be totally happy with either of the new models. When the first of the ceramics began appearing in May of 2016, I think everyone started freaking out, lol, because I believe this is the earliest in the calendar year that we've seen a new Basel release appear in quite a few years. I have a great relationship with my AD over the last six years, having purchased many pieces from them during this time frame. So, I stayed patient throughout 2016, and on December 22 of last year, three days before Christmas, and by complete coincidence, I was in my AD getting a bracelet adjusted when a FedEX truck pulled up. Incredibly, a black-dial Daytona C had just come in. My sales guy offered it to me 30 minutes later. I couldn't be happier with this watch. It has a sporty-edge to it that is just off the charts. And I still thoroughly enjoy my white-dialed SS 116520, because it is completely amazing in its own right. Regards, -Rick.

A friend of mine got on the list and waited only 3 months. No lie! And he was offered the watch 9 months prior the first time and turned it down.
I think he has a special friendship with this dealer.

Got on multiple lists on day 1. The only list I actually put money on came through in5 months. There's hope!

Well...much has been said here on this subject.

At this stage you either pay or wait. So you decide how you want to spend your time.

I was lucky, I wasn't even on a list when my AD called me. So, if you can develop a good relationship with your AD, that's a great start. Sometimes you make your own luck.

I put my name on the list at the AD in April 2016 for a black dial. That summer I bought my LV from the same AD and traded in my Exporer II. At the beginning of 2017 I got a call asking if I still wanted to be on the list (they were cleaning up some lists). I said yup. I bought my wife's 5 year anniversary bands to add to her engagement/wedding ring in September and we asked where I was. They got back to us a couple weeks later and said "there are 37 people on the list and the most I can tell you is you ARE on the list. Not everyone that has put there name in actually gets on the list" A month later I got a call that a black dial came in and it was mine if I wanted it, but if I passed on it for a white, I went to the back of the list. Of course picked it up a couple days later. Think if I wanted white I would still be waiting but thankfully black was my first choice as I don't have a black dial and like the esthetics of the black better (a little more dressy, less sporty than the white)

Called my AD the morning of Basel. Got the 2nd white dial they received. Passed on a black dial they offered prior to the white arriving a few months later.

Said that that I would have one at the launch, daughter bought a YG&S/S diamond numeral DJ, from the same AD, I had previously bought four various ones from the AD. July this year got the call, white dial, very nice indeed. Just bought my wife her christmas present from the same AD, you never know what I may need next. Bit of a trend here, buying from the same AD.

I have a rather successful wait list story.

I was a little hesitant to get a 116500 as I previously had owned a 116520 and never really bonded with it. Eventually looking at pics of that stunning white dial with the super awesome ceramic bezel I broke down and asked my AD to be put on the list. I had my white dial Daytona in about three weeks give or take a few days. I know that this isn't typical and I did work hard to build a relationship with that AD. And I'm sure you can guess that I've remained a loyal customer. But you never know, it could be a shorter wait than you expect!

After I held both white and black versions at Rolex event in May 2016, i put my name down for white. I forgot about it and 9 months later l got the call !

Wearing the white for a few months, I decided to go for Black dial as well so i put my name down in June 2017. Still waiting but hoping for nice xmas present!

Put my name down at a few here in SF when it was announced. May 2017 (about a year) got the call from the big R boutique here in SF where I have good history. I emailed them frequently just to show I'm interested. Let my 116613LB and DSOTM go to pay for it but no regrets what so ever. This has been my one and only and daily driver since May and have no desire for anything else. Well ok I dream of a Platona but the D500 is no slouch and am happy to own it. Hopefully some day they can make a pair. D500 daily and the Platona for special occasions etc.

England, New England, might as well be the same. No luck getting on a wait list here either. I hunkered down and found the best grey deal I could. For now I've got the black.

Called Wynn morning of Basel to be "first" on list for the white. Couple skipped me for the vips but I still had mine in July 2016. So rather quickly...definitely had previous purchases/relationship that made this happen. Good luck to those still waiting.

I bought a Submariner LVC in April 2016 a couple of weeks after Basel. As a throw away comment to the lady I was dealing with I asked if she could put me on the Daytona list. I didn’t give it a second thought until March 2017, When I received a call to let me know there was a Black dial Daytona with my name on it. Just under a 12 month wait.
