Hi,

Has anyone encountered their watch suddenly stopped ticking? I looked at my watch this morning when I woke up and saw that it stopped at 9:30 so I proceeded to wind it and after I saw that it was running, I closed the stem.

But then I made myself coffee and saw that the watch was still at the time I set it to, much worst, it doesn't move anymore even if I wind it or even if I shake it. I am a bit worried but also wanted to get idea what could be wrong. I stopped fiddling with it since all I can do now at home is either wind it or shake it. I had it serviced 2 years ago by a reputable watchmaker and seemed to be working fine all the time. It just stopped working this morning all of a sudden.

I would take it to Rolex here when they open but wanted to get your thoughts what could be wrong. I was trying to do quick research and people are saying mainspring but wanted to get someone who encountered something similar even with another watch model.

Same thing happened to me last year. Winding and shaking couldn't get it started and the second hand just seemed stuck. I took it to the RSC and it was fixed with regular maintenance.

Mechanical watches will eventually fail.

I have a Hamilton Auto Chrono that stopped working all of a sudden, this was a few years ago.

Maintenance by the Swatch Group fixed everything for a reasonable price. Honestly, I think they just replaced the entire movement and didn't even service it. I've worn the hell out that watch as a daily beater for almost 20 years, so it's to be expected.

Could be something simple like a broken screw head, loose screw or broken mainspring.

Service again. I would not be surprised if at the last service the tech did not replace the mainspring as a matter of preventive maintenance. How reputable is the guy?

However, if he did replace it --- sometimes even new parts fail.

Mainspring is most likely, BUT could be a variety of things.
