I think that in the $150k and up range it won't have much of an impact. But in the 911/cayman, R8, GTR, M cars, etc, world I think it will. I have a R8 4.2 and think the only category that the R8 would win would be it's rare, and that is just because of where I live. In addition that R8 is dated. I had been kicking around picking up a 911 but that is now off the table.

looks like they stole styling cues from all the best EU and Japanese mfgs and put it on this american clunker with an all plastic interior.

They should only make two cars like ford or just go out of business already. americans cant make cars but look at all the great porsches, mercedes, toyota, and bmw's from 70-90s still driven today

You need to look at some videos of what they have done with the interior and its components.

The quality of materials and seats are better but the dash is anything but sporty. Especially the Vertical Climate Controls.

I wish they could style this similar to Camaros and Mustangs which seem like a better value and have a traditional muscle car look.

https://www.motor1.com/news/365216/n...price-details/

"Chevrolet wasn’t kidding when it announced the eighth-generation Corvette would start at less than $60,000, as the mid-engine sports car will go on sale with a base price of $58,900, or $59,995 after a $1,095 destination fee. Yes, the all-new Corvette Stingray costs a mere $3,000 more than the current car.

That sum gets buyers into the driver’s seat of a 2020 Corvette Stingray 1LT, which includes a formidable list of standard features such as eight-way power seats wrapped in Mulan (that’s not a typo) leather, Brembo brakes, a proximity key, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with power tilt and telescoping functions, a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. To that, buyers can also drop $1,195 on a performance exhaust system that raises the output of the 6.2-liter V8 engine from 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of twist."

The 2020 Corvette is surely doing the same thing. Equal or better performance mid engined car for a fraction of the cost of the exotics and near-exotics. There has to be some serious board room meetings going on .
Someone buying an NSX isn’t someone who buys a NEW Lamborghini or Ferrari.
Corvette isn’t stealing sales from anyone. Is it a hit, of course! Is it going to steal sales from someone buying a European car, absolutely not. 90% of those buyers wouldn’t want to be seen in a domestic. In this demographic, there is lots of brand snobbery. Someone who owns a 50k Audemars would never buy a 25k Omega regardless of how good it is.

The Corvette is going to make people looking for a Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, etc to move their budgets up. Also I know this is a completely different car, but it’s going to steal a lot of Ford Raptor sales. It also has a large customer base of former C6 and C7 buyers who will upgrade.

I’m looking forward to the new C8, it will definitely be hot for first 18-24 months.

Maybe for new car sales.
But my friend just put his 430 on consignment and will order the new c8. Hes out of the exotic niche. And when my 458 starts to get any significant repair bills, I'm out.
Your watch analogy makes no sense. I like my AP and my PP, but i wear my $6500 Glasshutte frequently and quite enjoy it.

It’s hard to compare the 2020 Corvette styling to EU styling unless one views the Corvette on a rollback like its EU counterparts.

Yes the typical Ferrari or Lambo etc. buyer will not buy this car. But that isnt the cars market anyway. Some exotic car owners will buy it. You know guys like Jay Leno and so forth.

Like I've said it is a fantastic car. The technology on it is outstanding. And the performance specs for the price are mindblowing.

To each his own. I'm not quite sure why it always has to come down to trashing each other. But such is life.

Was at my Acura dealer this week getting my car serviced. They are worried that they are going to have to discount the NSX even more than they have been which is already a lot because of the C8 Corvette. It’s going to make some manufacturers (not all) have to get very creative to move cars. His words not mine.

2020 Corvette

Ya know this isn’t the first time Chevy thought of this mid-engine idea. Zora tinkered with a design decades ago.

But the C8 is a risk to take US sports cars to the level many mfrs. have accomplished. Interesting article from Racer Magazine below - but for some good racing results in the ‘60’s you might not have had Corvette some 6 decades later.

Why not just buy a Mustang or Camaro? You want all cars to look the same? Whats the point?

Thats been going on for a while.
Many people denigrated the 430 when it replaced the 360 (Ferrari).
Same thing when the 458 replaced the 430. I dont get it. We are privileged to experience and enjoy such creative advances .

You must be joking. American cars are so awesome that they couldn’t go out of business if they tried...and they have tried.

My local Chevrolet dealer had a new C8 on display yesterday. I told my buddy I’d meet him at the dealership at 1:00 to take a look at it. I arrived at 1:00 and the traffic was incredible trying to pull into the dealer’s lot. I’m talking something like 200 cars!
I gave up when I saw this and went home. I texted my friend and he was waiting outside to get inside. They gave him a 2:00 appointment with 20 others to see the car.
There’s obviously a lot of interest in this car.
I’m thinking Rolex could generate similar interest if they brought a few stainless models into an AD for “viewing”!

Not sure if I believe him but they are one of the largest corvette dealers in the country.

The Corvette may not be to everybody’s liking, but the number one dealer in the US, Kerbeck, has already sold its full allocation for MY2020. https://kerbeck.com/reserve/

The best looking American car I have seen.
A shame it will be over 100,000$ in the UK

I'm not in the market for a sports car, but if I was and they were right hand drive, I would be all over it.

A bit surprised at how many dismissive responses there are. Yes, it is a Chevy with all the usual Chevy things. Plasticky interior, No exclusivity, etc.

On the other hand. You can buy and service anywhere in the USA and get parts at NAPA.

A supercar that you can park on the street or in the mall parking lot and will always start and run.

The hourly service rate at the Antelope Valley Chevy dealership is what compared to the Hollywood Ferrari dealership?

Chip all you want but nobody nowhere is offering the performance and reliability the Vet is giving you for under $70K in coupe or convertible.
