1601 Help

Hey guys,

I am considering this Buckley dial Datejust but I don't have enough experience with vintage. The dealer says it's from 1967.
One concern I have is how white the lume plots are. Maybe a service dial? Any other issues?
I would appreciate the expertise.

It may be a service dial and the lume dots on the dial may be luminova. To test give them a test under a strong light and then see if they glow in the dark. If they do it is luminova.

The bezel flutes are showing quite a bit of wear and a new bezel would make a huge difference with sharp glistening edges.

I will do the test and keep the bezel in mind. Much appreciated, Steve.

That dial does not look 52 years old - the lume dots look far too white. Good luck though. Here is my 1967 Datejust with new dial.

That is exactly my concern too. I will try to learn more about its history.
Thanks for your input Dan. By the way, that's a clean looking Datejust!

It can’t be a newer service dial as it has t swiss t at the bottom of the dial (not later t swiss made t or luminova ‘swiss made’. It may have been relumed. Best way to check is to ask to see watch in the dark after it’s been exposed to light or use UV. If dealer refuses request walk away.

Exactly, the main point of confusion is the Tritium text. Otherwise I would almost be certain it is a service dial since it looks too clean. Thanks for the input. I will update if I learn anything new.
