I would say any black Maxi Dial sports such as a Sub, GMT, SD, Ex II. Large black dots on a jet black face make for super legibility. The black Daytona is the least legible.

I agree with this. Big dial, big markers, excellent contrast specifically on the white dial.

Its not as easy to read as a sub/gmt, but I don’t find the black dial Daytona hard to read at all. Have you worn one or are you just judging photos? Photos make it seem harder to read than it really is in person. Also I’ve compared mine to an older “thin hands” style and the thin hands are noticeably harder to read, but still not terrible. Just my opinion of course. Everyone’s eyesight is different. Maybe in 10-20 years I’ll need something like a SD43 to tell the time... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wearing glasses all the time takes some adjustment, if you're new to them, but not having to fumble with reading glasses or employing other tactics is just a needless chore.

Says the young man with healthy, young eyes. My problem is I can’t get my wrist far enough away from my face to see the dial well without glasses. My distance eyesight is still phenomenal, but inside 2 feet, fuggedaboudit! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Funny neither my SkyD nor my Black DC cause me problems. The DC can be tough in very low light conditions but otherwise no issue for me. Did I mention I'm 66 and don't wear reading glasses?

Easiest to read?
1. Explorer 1 2. Submariner with 3 6 9 (quite rare and old), any other 3,6,9 dial, especially in black. 3. regular submariner (but not the one with Serti dial). 4. Explorer 2. |

Exp 1. It shows time in a glance. Unlike any Datejust, Sub or GMT with their distracting date bubbles, extra hand, bezel with numbers, fluted bezel etc.

This has four hands, a bezel with numbers and a date function which makes it less easy to read the time instantly.

If you expand to include Tudor, you can read the time on a Pelagos from across the room.

The ability to tell the time with just a quick glance at my wrist was a big factor in me choosing the explorer 1. At 50+ I can tell the time without my spectacles on.

I'm in the same boat now...never had glasses before, but within the last year or two seeing things up close is becoming increasingly difficult...and it has also affected my watch collection. Sold a JLC Master Calendar and added a polar explorer II and a Panerai Base (562) because I'm gravitating towards easier to read timepieces. Of course accepting the need for glasses all the time would make things easier but I'm still in the transitional and denial period. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

My definition of easiest to read is if a watch can be read at a glance and without having to look at it closely or give it a second look to be “sure”. In my view, this can be achieved with any model that has a black dial, no date, and mercedes hands.
Black provides greatest contrast, cyclops can cause a second glance to be necessary to read the time, and mercedes hands quickly distinguish between hour and minute.
