That’s been a topic for years without a simple answer. I certainly can’t explain any numeric logic.
But I think even their collection names are as obscure - Calatrava, Nautilus, Aquanaut, Gondola. I get the Grand Complications, Complications and Golden Ellipse - they are almost as descriptive as Submariner, GMT Master, etc. If you’d like a nice historical perspective, PP’s website has some clues dating back almost two centuries. https://www.patek.com/en/company/history Now, certainly on a light-hearted level, and with a nod towards Henri Stern’s financial prowess, I suspect the numbers relate to the amount of money they planned to pry from our wallets: The only thing I can’t fathom is the multiplier...
