AC decision
so I visited an AD a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with AC 5396R.
The breguet numerals really make this watch sing, at least for me. I really like the brown strap and how well it goes with the rose gold and silvery opaline dial. Initially I thought it would fit small at 38.5. However, I was impressed as to how good it sat on my wrist. It felt larger than expected. This AD also had a 5396G. I did not like the black strap as it was really glossy/shiny. The gray dial was gorgeous, but I loved rg more. My question is, do I pull the trigger for a new or wait for preowned? A couple of 5396R sold here recently and I missed out terribly. Thank you all for your feedback! PS: Wrist size is 7.5in +- |

Wait for Pre-Owned. These are fairly common on the secondary market.

I would buy a RG strap piece new or at least unworn. Hunt around you should still get a good discount.

Definitely preowned. But for a sportier option non rose gold I’d get the 5726 grey

If you can get a decent discount from an AD, it may be reasonable to buy from an AD rather than preowned. You get established with an AD, which may be helpful if you are looking to purchase harder to obtain watches (SS Nautilus or sS Aquanaut) in the future.
5396 is a beautiful watch by the way |

Depends if you want to get some more in demand pieces later, if yes then definitely through AD as buying a first piece like this will make you much more eligible for a harder to get piece, if you don't like SS Nautiluses or Aquanauts then get from grey, if the price is reasonable, I would consider only if at least 15%, they are not hard to get pieces at all, if zero discount just say no and go elsewhere

Thank you all. I will go back to AD and see what they offer. I would love an Aquanaut in the future, so the 5396 will be a great way to establish a relationship if the $ is right.

Sorry for a splash of cold water but...that watch looks enormous on your wrist. Surely it’s just a visual effect of the picture?

If you like the 5396R more, get the rose gold from your AD (if you want to build a relationship). There is also a 5396R with a blue dial which I think is equally nice.

lol. It does look big on the photos and I was also surprised as to how “big” the fit was. I usually wear 40mm watches so I went expecting a smaller fit, however this AC was nice because of the lugs.

5396 is a very beautiful watch, similar to the very sought after 3448. There is no big demand for annual calendars so you should be able to get it from an AD with a decent discount

There are 6 5396 variants altogether. If you don't like the existing variant carried by your AD, don't settle for it. Ask your AD to order your preferred color and it should arrive in the next shipment.

I got a 5396G that is really great dress watch. Not only for suit but great for polo shirt as well considering its model look when compared with other ac variations.

As others have opined, try to negotiate a reasonable deal with your AD, and get the relationship started.
10-12% accommodation would not be a bad price point for new, with your name on the papers. It’s nice to have a warranty on an expensive timepiece. |

Can someone photoshop the Breguets onto the blue dial? Think they might look terrific.

Agreed. Breguet hands would have really brought the package together too.

Maybe in the UK Neil. In the US ACs dont move at all. I wouldnt even consider for less than 20% and I think 20 is low personally

The 5396R is my favorite AC. I’d shoot for 15% off and get it from an AD. This piece in particular seems to hold its value better than other annual calendars too.
