5712 va. 5990
My first high end Patek. Which of the two do you prefer? Leaning toward the 5712. Thanks.

5712: Thinner and more true to the original Genta design, beautiful blue dial, romantic moon phase complication, classic 240 micro-rotor movement with lots of Patek DNA
5990: More heft and wrist presence (think Rolex SubC level), super useful GMT complication, probably a rarer watch in terms of production numbers, balanced and symmetric dial layout, perhaps easier to source at retail If possible you should try both watches on before deciding (e.g. at a second hand / grey dealer), they are quite different pieces aesthetically and in terms of wrist presence and function. Out of the two I would personally go for the 5712, but I am biased: |

My personal view: The Gerald Genta Nautilus was designed to be a sleek and elegant, ultra thin steel sports/dress watch. Anything thicker than 9mm feels a little large. My vote : 5712

5712 for me, love the dial and like having the PP name at the top of the dial.

Get the 5712, it's a masterpiece. You will appreciate the beautiful asymmetrical dial, and it's a gradient blue.

I’ll go for the 5712 without thinking

5990 would be my choice. The 5712 is very nice, and the micro rotor is nice to have, but it’s functions are fairly ordinary. The 5990 is a flyback chrono, which in my view is more special, plus it has the second time zone function.
The thickness of each can be a pro or con depending on your preference. For a thicker Nautilus case I think the 5990 pulls this off better than the 5880. |

For some reason I don’t really like the 5712…so 5990 for sure, I love it. If you’d like a sleeker watch I personally prefer the 5711 over the 12.

If I had to choose one or the other, I’d go for the 5712 just because I feel it’s more “elegant”

2 of my favorite Nautilus options and I hope to own both some day. If I had to choose one I’d go for the 5712

5712 would be the choice for me. I really dig the 240 and just not a huge fan of the 5990 (although I haven’t seen one in the metal so maybe I’m wrong on it).

5712.
I went through this dilemma recently. If I wanted the heft, I would still have my Rolexes/APs. What drew me to PP in the first place was the elegance, finesse of the watches. Although a 5990 is in my future, I decided to pick the 5712 first. Next I’m on a 5711 white , due to the same thinness. But for 2019/2020 I’m for sure going 5990. Not even close IMO. 5712 is the winner

Have both. The 5990 is my favourite watch I have ever owned and that is saying a lot because the 5712 is amazing too

5712 for me. The slimness, blue dial, PR, moonphase, microrotor movement all work together in harmony for the perfect sports/dress watch.

They are both great watches - but I would pick the 5990 out of the two - hands down.
