Patek pocket watch help? Would be much appreciated!

I welcome any and all comments on the authenticity, markings, potential age, movement, dial etc etc. of this apparent Patek pocket watch.

The movement is original Patek dating to late 1880s.

I just found some JS signed Patek cases, so editing my earlier comments

The dial is probably correct, but is not signed as you can see, and in poor shape.

This watch would sell at a discount to one that had a Patek signed dial and case.

Given the condition of the dial, and gold unsigned Patek case, this would probably be more valuable parted out.
A repair job from Patek would outweigh the value of the watch.

Parts are not as universal for Swiss watches as they were for American, and it may be difficult to get repaired.

1. what’s a “JS signed Patek case”? Serial matches on case and movement.

At first I did not think the case was original.
JS is the maker mark. I keep doing a little more research.
My first guess was that the case was american. Then I found other Pateks with the same case. So, I changed my post.
Now I have found, that my first guess was correct it is an American case. One commonly used with Patek.
The case was made by Jeannot & Shiebler.

I believe that the "warranted" solid gold case mark was only used in the USA.
Europe had different hallmarks to indicate purity.

If the serial number matches case and movement then it definitely is original to the watch as I am sure you assumed.

It was common practice for Patek to sell uncased movements and the movement to be cased by jewelers in the USA. Often they are co-branded or even private labeled, were you do not see the Patek name at all.
But, most people prefer the triple signed (dial, case, movement.) Pateks, to ones that are only signed on the movement.
