Wow. What brands would you compare the finish to? I wish I could check one out in person!

How was the ordering experience btw?

Looking at those sharp inward angles I would say that only Greubel Forsay and Philippe Dufour are in the same league, with Voutilainen immediately below them.

Curious to hear why you think Kari is inferior to Philippe. Learning about independents a bit more every day so your insight would be valuable.

First of all, you will find on this forum insights much more valuable than mine. To answer your question: I consider Dufour's anglage superior to Voutilainen's.

You are right about that. Tough to base superiority on anglage alone.

I think the comparison with Groebel Forsey and Dufour is appropriate. Romain is a friend and protege of Dufour's. Under a loupe, one can see the smoothness and even application of the frosting on the bridges, the curved anglage, the finishing of the gears (anglage on the wheel spokes), and of course the incredible interior angles. Romain also likes to improve components; his triangular palet lever, escape shell, and balance wheel are all of his own design and manufacture. Other than springs and jewels, all parts of RG's movements are designed, manufactured, and assembled in house.

I got this watch from Phillips Perpetual in London. They were easy to deal with and the watch was exactly as described. It was remaining inventory from William and Son, a London luxury boutique that went into Administration in July.

Like other independents, one can actually communicate with the brand and its makers. I have had a couple of email conversations with Romain. One can buy directly from him, or through an AD, of which there are 4 in the US.
