Divers extension removed DSSD and SD43
So the SD43 and DSSD both fit great out of the box with all links and the adjustability set all the way in so lots of room to expand if needed.
I finally picked up four extra links and replaced the divers extension on each with two full links. Fit is perfect and looks so much better. So even for guys who can’t just remove the divers extension there is an easy and relatively cheap option. Two links just a little smaller than the divers extension. |

Not being provocateur, but 'looks so much better'? Who would possibly ever notice, "Hey, I notice under your wrist you replaced one really small link with two even smaller ones. Sweet!"
Anyway, good job, and it could help the fit for someone with a smaller wrist. For me, I need the expansion for Scuba although some dry suit configurations will be too thick; and, in the Winter here in Alaska you can wear your watch over certain layer(s) or gloves (1st pic not my pic), |

Hmm how much were are the spare links? Because SD43 with all links and DE I am comfortable at the tightest glidelock position. Kinda want to remove DE but also kinda think it is kind of apart of the watch.

I don't feel any difference after removing DE from my DSSD. Will put it back on.
BTW, I have 6.5" wrist. |

I removed the DE from my Deep Sea and my SD43. I have relatively skinny wrists, so I have the DE and an additional link removed on the SD43 to fit me properly.
The DE keeps the clasp and bracelet fitting as nicely on my wrist as the watches do without it in place. I'm not going to be needing to strap the watch over a wet suit here in Florida, so I'd rather the watch be comfortable.

Arguably the HE valve looks worse on the case but a Rolex Seadweller without an HE valve is ludicrous, a diver extension is also an integral part of the Rolex dive watch. I pride myself on it in fact, as only the Seadwellers have it. I wouldn't buy one without it and the Seadwellers now boast exclusive details, HE valve, divers extension, caseback writing and thicker oyster cases and bracelets. Some talk about "tool watches" a lot around here, something I disagree with yet appreciate it the heritage because there is no such thing as an $8k plus tool watch and even Rolex now advertise as luxury, not to mention how many threads relate to babying the watch and hardcore usage consists of a bike ride and a hike in the mountains.... As such, we talk all the tool watch lingo and when a watch comes with all the "tool watch" features, first thing y'all do is take it off, and neuter it, lols. Tool watch redux.. I honestly cannot see how this makes it more comfortable as the clasp itself is in a flat area of the wrist with no movement and no one complains going from an Easylink clasp to a Glidelock clasp, in fact the opposite is true. Mostly everyone wants a Glidelock across the range. Those with GMTs and Explorers and even five digit models prefer the longer Glidelock...yes for adjustability but yet no one complains of how much longer it is and that it's a stiff part that is "uncomfortable", the DE sticks out not even half way past the end of the clasp. Perhaps the issue is the reverse, people take too many links out and their DE protrudes too much making the clasp section one long stiff bar. Properly sized and the DE should reside under the clasp and only extend a few millimeters upon adjust for wrist swelling. my .02. |

Hmm I guess the old tuna clasp had a great solution to hide the dive extension ! No need to mess with it to make it comfy.

For me it is a markedly better fit with the DE out.

On the SD43 I owned I took the DE out as it was not needed. Next time I will give a try with it left in.

No doubt. Without your PADI card or other form of certification representing the intended activity you’d just about have to.

I've tried a 126660 on both ways. No difference whatsoever.
However, with someone with a smaller wrist, it's possible the DE could protrude from the curvature of a smaller wrist. So I don't think it's for sure, I think it depends. |

I removed the divers extensions on my DSSD, D-Blue and SD43 and replaced with 2 links. You get the clasps centered better that way by moving links from the one side of the clasp to the other.

To me this would be like changing the racing seats in a Ferrari for ones from a Cadillac because they are more comfortable. This a a dive watch (!) and even with a small wrist the extension feels fine on my 43.

Removing the DE in a modern SD can absolutely improve how well it fits one's wrist, especially if the DE protrudes from the clasp. It's all dependent on fit. |

With one link on my DSSD removed the DE is mostly covered under the clasp on my 7+ inch wrist and is perfectly comfortable. It depends on your wrist size and where the DE lies after sizing

I guess I'm part of the minority, but I too removed the DE from my DSSD and like the fit much better this way.

The DE on both my 126660 and 126600 have been left on. I find the watches to be very comfortable as they are.

I would not consider myself as having a thin wrist but my SD43 definitely wears better minus the DE and one link. Interesting thing is that when I picked up my SubC a few years back, my AD offered me a DE for an SD116600 that he had come upon. It was still factory wrapped and ended up on my SubC...it wears fine with a couple of links out!

Look at all the ‘first scratch, first dent’ threads. These watches lost their soul a long time ago. At least the OP has a watch that fits better, looks better to him, and one that he wears with passion! That comes closer to the spirit of these watches better than watches that are a collection / safe queen. |
