Dress PP 5196 you pick the metal, Diver keep your Hulk, GMT I’d go coke or Pepsi pre ceramic, you can throw a cheap chrono for n like a man on the moon but I’d definitely have a PP in the mix, I have a 5196p and it’s an amazing watch

This one is pretty simple: Land, Sea and Air Rolex trio:

Land - Explorer 2 or Daytona
Sea - Sub or sea dweller
Air - GMT

A Daytona is plenty dressy for any occasion.

Three watches. For me that would be an everyday, sport and dress.

Everyday options: AP 15202, DD white gold, Sub, Seamaster.
Sport options: AP ROOC, daytonaC, speedmaster.
Dress options: PP Calatrava, JLC Reverso duoface ultra thin.

For me, I would pick.

15202, DaytonaC and JLC reverso.

3 brands, date, chrono, gmt etc

I'm up to 7 at the moment and plan to trim it down to five.

1. Omega Speedmaster on a Nato (got)

2. Rolex Sea Dweller (got)
3. AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver (got)
4. Patek Nautilus 5726 or 5980 (searching)

5. Rolex GMT BLRO (ordered)

I plan to trade my Daytona, Reverso, and two Royal Oak 15450's for the Patek. And then once the BLRO arrives I will have completed the collection.

The challenge was to get the collection down to three, and those three are the SD, the ROO and the Nautilus.

I've added two more that I think are required. Firstly a classic to fly completely under the radar, and for me that's the Speedy. And secondly, I think you need a 'flipper'. I want to maintain a core collection of the three mentioned, but I know I won't be able to resist buying other watches. So I am reserving a slot for a watch that I will buy and then expect to sell after a couple of years when something else takes my fancy. This will be the BLRO first up.

good start with the sub... for the other two i would get a dual time/GMT and a chronograph. Doesn't have to be all Rolex though.

Dress watch isnt necessary unless you really need one. I dont need one and dont own one.

I'm going to talk you into getting one Esepcially if/when PP updates the 5196. You'll be swayed.

6006G is about as dressy as i can picture myself at this point. 5196 at 39/40mm then maybe.

My ideal collection also has 3 watches. The first two are already in so there is one place left for the last one. I was torn between Hulk and Deep Sea Black but now with the 2018 version the Deep Sea Black will definitely complete my racing duo Daytona.

Given your needs, I would definitely look at a Grand Seiko GMT– not the one with a 24 hour bezel, but the dress ones with a 24 hour chapter ring. They're quite stunning watches, with finishing more like the Big Three than Rolex.

Great start with he Hulk. If you want to go with only 3 watches, I would recommend 3 different brands to give yourself some variety. I would add a precious metal dress watch, either PP Calatrava, VC Patrimony or ALS Saxonia. Then, I would add a Speedmaster. For the 3rd watch, you could also go vintage so add a vintage Speedy or, if you really want a GMT, go with a Rolex GMT Master.

These are the three I’ve settled on. You’ve already got the Sub covered, so any variation of the other two would look fine.

Three watches is perfect for me. Do I love the Hulk..... yes. But I fear it would be redundant and too many watches for me. These three are all different as far as color, bezel, bracelet, functions, etc.

I know many hate the Milgauss. I would just say everyone out to see it on their wrist when the sun hits it. The watch is so interesting. I do not get how one can love the Hulk and hate the Z-Blue but I guess opinions always vary.

I have almost the same thought process, albeit slightly different choices. I go black Explorer 2 as my daily, Railmaster as my dressy and Milgauss for my fun/summer watch. I like my daily to have a date and my mix-ins to be no date models. So easy to set the time and not have to worry about AM/PM or date.

I am a huge fan of the Milgauss in all configurations. But the Z Blue is probably the best.

Planning to add the PAM 1499 or JLC Master Control next.

I'd say the new GMT Rose Gold is a nice choice if you like it. The easiest PP to get your hands on would be a Calatrava, which would make for a nice dress watch.

That being said, I'd personally skip the RG GMT. I do appreciate why people like it, but in full RG it lacks the versatility of an every day piece. I feel the same way about the Hulk since it's green, but YMMV. I think I'd be more interested in a WG Pepsi GMT or a WG Daytona since pre-owned they fit your budget but between the white metal and the colors I think are a little easier to match day to day.

Just my .02!

3-Watch Collection Strategy

Here's my 3-Rolex collection. Fits all my needs.

Shoot for a GMT and Datejust/OP to round out your collection.

For me the three watch strategy would be :

Sport:
Submariner, Seamaster, blancpain FF

GMT:
Explorer II, Grand Seiko GMT, Panera’s 029

Classic:
Datejust II, Glashutte senator Sixties big date, JLC ultra thin moon phase

GMT dresses up nicely key with a black strap. For this pic, I wasn’t wearing the all black version of the strap. Plus usually formal occasional are in a darker atmosphere so the bezel looks all black in most conditions.
