Perpetual question

Hi Folks
Probably a silly question but....
I know that when you leave these watches in a safe for a few days or more they eventually stop, is it all of a sudden or do they slowly slow up then stop.

The balance amplitude gets lower and lower gradually as the mainspring unwinds, eventually it will just stop.
