Graduation gift advice?

Hi all,

I've currently started university in the UK, as my course is 3 years long I would like to get put on the waiting list at my local AD for a new watch. I'm looking to purchase a SS sports/professional model but I simply can't make up my mind.

This is going to be a watch that I would like to buy as a sense of achievement, I'm not too worried about resale value as I don't think I'll plan on flipping it. I'd like to wear this watch on regular occasions, it won't be a safe queen. I'm also not too particular about the complications as I hardly ever set the date on my Datejust and I don't think I'll ever use the complications on these watches.

I've created a poll for everyone to vote in, however below is my opinion on all the models I've narrowed it down to.

114060 (Sub no date): I really like the simple, clean aesthetic of this watch, it's a classic timeless Rolex and it will truly stand the test of time. My only gripe with this watch is that it is a bit lacking in terms of colour compared to my other options.

BLNR (Blue/black GMT) Blue is my favourite colour, so I think the combination of blue and black on the BLNR is killer. I think it still retains the ability to fly under the radar but is a bit more flashy than the sub with it's PCL's. I think this is possibly the model to go for as it's a nice middle ground between the sub and the BLRO.

BLRO (Pepsi GMT) I think I do have a massive desire to own this watch out of the three, the blue and red would really add some colour to my collection and I do like the Jubilee bracelet as both my other watches are on oyster bracelets. I do think that this is quite a flashy watch though and it would garner a lot of attention.

SS Daytona: As much as I would love to own this watch, there is absolutely no chance of me being able to purchase this brand new from an AD here in the UK. given the opportunity I think I would choose this however I don't want to purchase from the grey market so I won't include this option in the poll :(

Nice! I'm doing something similar. I went with the BLNR. Already own the Sub no date. Adding the date and GMT complications, and that the BLNR matches my work attire (blue scrubs). I graduate in less than a year. Probably end up just biting the bullet and buying from a grey dealer.

Your mileage may vary, but I think I'll really like the additional complications the GMT has over the ND.

I think plan for the BLNR, if you can get on a few lists, with different parent companies so you don't look like a flipper, then you should get one before you graduate. Then once you are earning the big bucks the grey market is your oyster.

I think its too early to start planning - its just a watch.

Focus on graduating, getting a good job and making good financial decisions and investments. Watches are easy to attain especially Rolex's - they will be available 3 years from now and 30 years from now.

If you're not going to use the complications offered on a GMT then it sounds like the ND Sub is a perfect choice for you.

Submariner. But, I'd get the Submariner Date. You don't need more polished center links and the Submariner Date will fit in beautifully.

I actually think that's good advice. And it's the most friendly on your wallet of the 3, as well. Another bonus.

With all the expenses of starting out in life, that seems like a nice reward, without going overboard. Then, once you've graduated and have yourself established, you can set a goal of one of the other GMT's.

I think it's great that you have these four fine pieces on your wishlist. They are all good choices. I have a SubC and Blnr, love and keeping both but if l had to choose one it would be the Blnr. Btw> I had the same Milgauss, lovely piece !

If you can get on the waitlist now for the BLRO, I would go that route! Any would make for a fine choice though.

Given the complications such as a date is useless to you and you certainly won't use the complications on a Daytona I would definitely go with the original style submariner (no date).
