I’ve not noticed this in the years I’ve been wearing mine. Do you actually have one and speak from personal experience? |

Yes I have one. It’s white gold so not a surprise as a much softer material than stainless steel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's one of my favorites from the modern Daytona reference. Yeah, it's a crap load of money, but given how it's coveted on the secondary market, you shouldn't get hurt if you get it and decide it's not for you--unlike a lot of other "luxury" purchases.
P.S. for all the "gold is too soft" comments, I would take that with a grain of salt. Talk to most PM owners and they will tell you almost always, that gold wears almost identically to steel, in normal wear/tear situations. And yes, we definitely need more pics. |

Go for it! I just ordered a new unworn 116509 blue dial off the grey market, 18% over MSRP. You can do the math :). AD's have stopped taking orders on this watch. The 116508 green has talks of being discontinued. Watch Eric on Youtube just said the 116509 blue is flying under the radar, for now. Word is out fast that blue might be discontinued. My AD said they can't place any special orders for this. The watch was much easier to attain a few months ago but now its very hard.
The watch itself is gorgeous, think about it WG and BLUE dial...it's a no brainer. The colors work perfect and of course it's a Daytona. Blue dial anything is hot. I just asked a highly respected grey dealer and he mentioned he's not selling any until end of April. Not pumping the watch but these are the facts. Go for it in my opinion. I'll post pics of mine when I receive it next week. |

Advice appreciated for 116509 blue
I have recently acquired one; the dial is absolutely stunning and the watch is compared to the grey market price of the 116500LN a massive bargain.

I picked one up several weeks ago, and it hasn’t left my wrist. I love the weight and the balance of it. One caveat: One of my usual daily wearers is a DSSD KC. So I have no problem with heavy (and large) watches. Not that the Daytona is large. I’d go for it again in a heartbeat. While I’ve no intention of selling it, those I’ve seen on the gray market are asking — whether selling, too, is a different question — well above MSRP.

If the finances allow, jump on it. It's a beauty.

Great buy
Missed out on a 116508 YG green dial from local AD in December 2020, however got the call to purchase the 116509 WG blue some 3 months later and its never been off my wrist, the dial in the sun is something else and watch is so subtle to the untrained eye. However if you know....you know....!
Still would not refuse to purchase the green dial YG however I dont think I would really wear it that much. |

I bought one a week ago, usual purchase through an AD. Gorgeous watch, just gorgeous. There are no prettier, in my eyes.
But, why are so many of these seemingly being offered through Rolex ADs? All those sudden pictures of apparently ‘rare’ samples, all through the thread. Why this particular model? You have to wonder…..I’m one of the customers. Are Rolex quietly distributing the 116509 because they are about to discontinue supply? I don’t know. Glad I bought one, and would never sell, forget talk of ‘value’, just have a good time. Great looking watch. You will need to look after it, like a family pet! And to deal with the weight, are sure that 18k gold bracelet is well balanced on the wrist. This lovely watch demands care and respect from the owners…..it’s not an ‘easy’ watch to own. But it will reward you…. I bought my first one in 2016. Being young and foolish I sold it, and missed it for many years. Now I’m back on track, but be under no illusion about this model, it’s demanding…..above all, don’t buy this for ‘profit’. That could prove problematic given generous recent supply. Just own and love it. It’s never an ‘easy’ watch to own over the years, treat with respect. And note how many are worn in pictures over sand….that’s potentially grit to white gold metal. That’s what I mean about the demands of owning white gold, although I love it. |

An incredible watch to be offered. I’d jump at that opportunity if it was presented to me.

White gold is Alloyed with stronger metals such as nickel, silver and palladium, usually with a rhodium coating, than yellow gold, making it more durable and scratch-resistant.

Blue dial and steel has a certain appeal, be it Daytona or sky dweller or Datejust

A gold Rolex can be wonderfully repaired. You can keep a watch like this in fine condition for a lifetime. Try that with most consumer durables. |

Is the 116509 (blue dial) more readily available than the other versions?

Its a beautiful watch. My buddy has one. I have the 116500LN black dial.
I'll be honest... I like mine better. I passed on a 116520 when I had the chance and I dont regret it. My reason for passing was how bad the bezel looked after a couple of years of "regular" wear. The white gold one has a white gold bezel. Unless you are really careful with it, pretty sure its not going to look great in a couple of years. For some people it does not bother them. I'm not one of those people.
