This is awesome. Definitely better to preserve the dial as much as possible, therefore keeping its uniqueness. There are tons of examples out there probably with repainted dials. Going to be a beauty once on the wrist!

Well I caved and messaged my watch maker last week. No response. However! I see this as a positive because it means he is hard at work on getting this finished....right?
Cheers to all of you who have checked out this thread and have asked for updates, it really feels like it isn't just me on the edge of my seat awaiting to see the finished result. |

I noticed :) Its been three weeks since the remaining parts were sent across so all we can do is wait. I don't know how long this process takes and if the service is complicated it may take a while. I do know he has a service kit from Switzerland, so he has all the parts on hand to finish this work.

Excited to see the end result! I think I’m about to embark on a similar (although much less intensive) process. Great to see these kind of threads as inspiration.

Thanks matey! You should start a thread and share your journey with us! I have to say, these restoration threads are the most interesting threads on TRF. A whole lot more interesting than the 'can I wear my rolex in the sauna?' or 'will this scratch affect the resale value of my rolex' threads

Just been reading through this the last three days. Was hoping i would scroll down to the finished article.
What a great story and read. Thanks to the OP and the contributors. I understand a lot more now about the vintage world than I did before. I do find the whole philosophy around repair or replace, and if repairing by how much fascinating. Cant wait to see the finished thing !

To say I have learnt a lot since March is an understatement. I knew almost nothing when I started this thread and now, well I am still no expert, but my appreciation for these watches and my father in laws amazing taste in the 1960's has made me a fan for life! |

All good mate! I am holding onto the same theory, the longer it takes the better it will turn out. I would be worried if I got it back in a few days. I am glad you had a read of the thread, its getting quite lengthy now!

Coming soon on the “for sale or trade” forum:
“Newly restored 5513. Lots of attention to detail. Will trade for light blue OP41” (Just kidding. I’m excited to see the result!) |

I can relate to you in a way. Im only 20 and at 19 I bought my first Rolex from a pawn shop. I had it serviced by a reputable watchmaker who specializes in Rolex. Since getting it Ive worn it almost every single day since last November. But now Im looking to switching out the slate grey dial for a silver one. The watch originally was missing its two tone bracelet, thankfully mike at Rolliworks had a couple for sale. I am now waiting for the parts to arrive and be put all together Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

All good. In the end I dont think my 5513 is worth as much as a datejust. I diddnt get it restored in such a way that it could be sold. I got it restored so I can wear it daily and have a part of my step father with me to remind me of the good times.
