Happy I found this forum
Hello to all!
I am glad to join here and introduce myself. I have owned very few watches in my life and purchased this one new in the early eighties and never took it of my hand since. I wonder what is worth today for curiosity reasons only as I will never sell it. Never seen anything else I ever liked better and wonder if they are worth what i hear and see on the web. Who should i trust to service in the US? I travel to Europe often and I can consider that also for service for any good reason if advised. I have been concerned in the past using one of the few official Rolex service centers in the US and wonder where to place better trust today in service. |

That, there, sir is a very nice piece.Yes it's worth quite a bit of coin and rising.Im sure some vintage experts will chime in, but Im sure you'd be ok servicing it in the US.Any RSC will take care of it for you, just keep that dial and hands untouched.Or you can go the independent watchmaker route, like Bob Ridley, ABC watchwerks, or Rikki in FLA

Yeah let's just say that watch was a very good investment. And yes they sell for the absurd prices you see. And since your the original owner it will be even easier to sell since you know the whole history of the watch. Don't get it polished when it gets serviced either. And If you do want it to look new, have Somone who does laser welding do it, since they add metal to the case, then polish it to the original surface level so you don't take any metal off.

As said. No change of hands, dial, and no polish. No laser either. Its worth a fortune, but still even if you sell, the original look and no changes / polishing increases the value.
What about the BB ?

Thank you all!
The car went away this year after being with me for over two decades. Lucky new owner got the only white /crema rosso interior BBi in the world which I had purchased from the original importer that ordered the car new. I quit driving the car years ago so I sold it but the watch I have to have on my hand always. It is amazing to me as I do lots of outdoorsy stuff that this watch looks like new and I wear it every day. While ignorant about watches I learned from personal experience after the first service that is best not to allow anyone to polish alter or use any parts that are not absolutely as original or original. I had a very upsetting experience with original Rolex service changing my push buttons with others that have a ring at the end while the original ones were smooth on that portion. Even more amazing was the fact the winding mechanism felt slightly different also and not as good as original. When I demanded the original parts back I was mailed the wrong ones that look like what they placed on the watch. I will not name which center did this but it concerned me enough to wonder where to go for next service. Would it be any advantages going to the factory as far as the quality of work? I really need to find someone that would be trustworthy to service the watch for best function for my life and live the looks as is as it looks new as is. I think just wearing it a lot keeps the watch with a mirror finish look and is very interesting that there is no scratches on it even though I use it daily. No one believes when they see this watch that is being used so much and looks new. I would love to hear more suggestions about service. I have been ignorant enough thinking if it is not broke it needs nothing and now I am concerned if the watch will have any issues since it has been serviced only once and it never had any issues ever being used so long. The dependability in function and appearance of this watch is totally amazing. I want to make sure it stays that good for the rest of my life so I am concerned about being overdue for oiling maybe as I learned here and torn with the idea of someone messing with it Sorry for the novel but I am concerned as this watch is part of me like no other item I have. |

The car I sold a few months ago. The watch stays. I am going to enjoy being part of this community and I am already feeling like buying another watch! Problem so far is I think I only want another one like mine with a white dial! I would be looking for a later Daytona but I do not like the large bezel as they all look like they get scratched easy. |

Well I read here how important to oil the parts so there is no wear......
After the one and only service with Rolex where they had to be do it twice to my satisfaction I felt like never again do I want anyone touching this watch. I used to dive or swim with it before the service but I avoided doing so after since I felt the people that serviced it were not detail high end techs. The way the watch winds and sets time after the service never felt as good as before,so I need to service it again and make sure is done with out polishing or change of any parts. This forum is awesome ....I have been reading and learning so much here. How does one find out combs of recent examples being sold to establish value? I really like the looks of a white or silver dial one and wonder how much it would take to buy a perfect one? |
