Icon5 Can you help me identify this Rolex?

This Rolex Oyster perpetual date:

belonged to my wife's grandfather. I can wear it if I get a new band put on it. Apparently he broke the original band chopping firewood, was told he had to send it to Switzerland to get another band, and so just put a Timex band on it. I plan to take it to a watch repair shop tomorrow, but was wondering (1) if you can give me any details about it, i.e. year made, link to read about this watch; (2) approximate value (I cannot and would not sell it, I'm just curious); (3) is it possible to have another Rolex band put on; (4) can the scratch on the face of the watch be removed (5) can it be polished and/or generally cleaned up; (6) what else you might do to it if it were yours (tune-up, service, etc.) and (7) what a band repair and polish/scratch removal might cost. Thank you in advance.
