Incoming!!! 5167 (second and final time)

Guys,

I had not had the chance of doing an incoming in quite a while, and this one is one to celebrate for.

Last year I got this from DavidSW for a great price. They were not super popular I think. Then a few months later a collector friend offered me 2x what I paid for it. It had to go.

I’d been looking to get this watch back for months. I literally called all 90 ads on pateks website. None had it. The best they could do is put me on list.

Anyways, last week a fellow forum member gave me a tip about a local place who had 2 mint ones. And hey! It’s back!! It’s got papers, box, etc. It was bought originally in Sept 2016.

This time I bought the bracelet version. I also bought the clasp and rubber straps straight from Patek, they should be here next week. Im also glad I kept the green one and brown I bought for the one I had last year, so I should be set.

Moral of the story: think carefully when flipping!!!

Sadly I will have to have a reacquisition at some point myself but don't have the straps which are rumored to be out of production now (or maybe just the green one). It's just such a comfortable stealth watch but the 5168 and 5164 are so tempting as well.

Wear it in good health and keep it close to you this time lol.

Congrats on the purchase ctaborda.
Wear it in good health!

I've also just started looking at Patek's and 5167A really appeals to me.
You've mentioned that the place you bought yours from had 2 on offer.
Could you let me know where the 2nd one is located?
Was it in a good condition late model?

Congratulations

It would be tough to sell a piece I really loved, but I'd definately have to think about it if I were offered twice the price.

Congratulations! I've been a 5167 owner for just over a month... bought it with the intent of it holding me over until I get a 5712, but I've come to the conclusion it is truly a keeper!

Incoming!!! 5167 (second and final time)

Thanks all!

But yes, 5167 is truly a keeper. I’ve heard people refer to it as “entry level”.. it’s just ignorance. They are looking at it thinking something more expensive must be better.

I tell ya, this thing is a better watch than any AP, and in my book, it should not be considered “beneath” the nautilus. They are different pieces, and you can dress the aquanaut up or down. Hell, put it in a croc strap and it’s a dress watch.

Money was not a consideration with this watch, I could have bought a 5711 or 5164 (travel time), which are both more money. I still prefer the clean dial vs the travel time, and the 5711 is a bit too delicate for me.

Hands down my favorite watch.

I have to ask. Why on earth did your friend offer you double what you paid for a 5167!?

Congrats! The boomerang is a common phenomenon around these parts. I am on round 2 of the 5712/1a and definitely won’t make the mistake of selling again.

Wear in good health.

Nice! That's amazing that you doubled your money on the old one. It's funny to me that people develop emotional attachments to watches, but there are hundreds or thousands (or more) of watches that are the EXACT SAME out there. I think flipping for a five digit profit and then re-buying it later on makes perfect sense. Not that many here are in it for the money (I'm certainly not), but you in essence almost ended up with a PP for free!

I agreed with you regarding the 5167 vs 5164. I sold the 5164 for the cleaner dial of 5167 and no regret. I prefer the date window on 5167 over the pointer date on 5164 as I find very difficult to read.

Congrats again. And I may consider to add the green strap too. Mine currently on the brown tropical strap.

Ugh...just traded mine. Sort of missing it already. May turn my focus towards the 5168G though this time...if I can even locate one.
