sell 5712R for regulator 5235G?
here is a question that is nagging me:::)))) a month ago i committed for a regulator 5235G (within a downpayment that is actually refundable if i withdraw from the deal). however, very recently i got offered a 5711R - which i have been chasing for a while - for an excellent price, to which i have immediately agreed. the 5711R is actually a no-brainer for me - some lust for gold probably:::))). so here are my options, since for reasons of internal family hygiene in cannot get two watches in a month: sell my 5712R (i already have a very good offer, about what i paid for it) and get the 5235G or just cancel the deal on the regulator. an argument for the former is that the 5712R will see little wrist time only since the 5711R will take over the nautilus part, an argument for the latter is that the 5712R is actually an appreciating asset and after all 'easier' to wear than the full gold 5711R.
i also have currently a 5227R and a 5320G incoming next year. help::::)))) decisons decisions.....first world problems.....::::: |

I had the regulator for a bit. Didn't really do anything for me; can't tell time on it, and it's a bit of a tweener.
Here, I'll do you a favor, especially if you have OCD - look closely at a picture of the 5235 - the date windows are all different sizes. You're welcome. |

No to 5320G , no to 5227R and no to 5235G.
Love 5712R and 5711R though. So there u go keep those two and make your 3rd watch a Patek Chrono (5070 or 5170) or even better a PCC. Imho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a 5235G. I find it easy to read once I got used to it and the asymmetry of the day and month windows don't bother me. I think 5235G will fit in nicely in your collection of 5227R, 5711R and 5320G

I purchased the 5235G 3 months ago and it remains unworn and in the box. I added a deployment strap which, imho, makes the watch for me. Now I am selling the 5235 since I have multiple incomings including the 5320 and 5712. My lineup will be 5711, 5712, 5522 and 5320. I think the 5235 is a nice, modern look, but I just don't see it getting wrist time.

Sell the 5712R and get the regulator. All the AC's with the three windows have the different sizes, so what. You don't need two RG Nautilus. And, my opinion on the 5712, the dial is a mess, power reserve is pointless, date wheel is covered by the hands quite a bit, moon phase on a sporty watch is weird. I had one too and sold it. Buy the regulator for a good price though.

the regulator: it looks great to me, size, dial and case but it seems to be too easily available now and is probably going the way the other ACs went, that is down in value fast while the 5712R seems to be in big demand now. that holds me back somewhat... |

I have the 5711/1r and I would get the regulator, 12r is too similar. Also not sure the leather is easier to wear here as I wouldn't want to have only leather watches, need a bracelet or rubber for the sweats and the swims.

pam66, why buy or keep a watch if you think it has features you don't like, wait for something you really like. About the power reserve I think it's pointless, maybe the wrong word, but it's only a 48 hour power reserve so does it really serve a purpose?

The 5235G seems to be an acquired taste - I'm 50/50 on it. I would not buy without a substantial discount as they take a real bath on resale it seems.
Considering you have a 5320G coming in next year, I'd sell the 5712R and put the money towards that instead of shelling out for a 5235G at this point in time. Maybe pick one up after the 5227 and 5320 come in, for cheap second hand? |

Threads like this get people's opinions that are all over the place, with a dozen other watch references mentioned. But at the end of the day, you have to decide if you want to keep the 5712R or get the 5235G. Only you can make that decision. But in reading your post, you are leaning towards selling your 5712R and want to get the 5235G and you are looking for people's validation that this is a reasonable decision. The 5235G is a watch like no other in the current Patek collection. It is the first and only regulator that Patek has produced. If you like something that is a bit different that you will rarely, if ever, see on someone else's wrist, it is an excellent choice. Best of luck in your decision! |

5235 is a really cool piece. I personally think it got lost in the shuffle and lumped in with all of the other ACs. It is a very versatile piece that can be worn with jeans or a suit BUT I think the 5320 fills that need as well so in this instance I would not opt for an AC and PC. My gut tells me you would always reach for the more complicated PC so in your situation I would sell 5712R and put funds towards 5320 and enjoy the hell out of the 5711R which is a killer piece.

If you have a 5320 coming in a A.C. is redundant

Like others have said sell 5712 and no on the regulator.
Use the cash toward the 5320. |
