Rolex Blowhards

We all know "that guy." The one who's the quintessential douchenozzle, right? He's the smartest, the richest, the coolest, the best looking, the biggest dong....
Well, my wife is pretty active on social media, and this guy pops up on FB from time to time, and he's always selling something, with an eye toward buying the next, most expensive thing, and using the proceeds from that thing he's selling to parlay into his next purchase (cuz truly rich people do that kinda stuff on social media).
Soooo, the attached watch gets posted, and he lets fly that he paid $15K for this thing, but he'll "take, if he must" $10K, "even though it appraised at $11K." There were no takers; instead only people making fun of him, so he came down to $8K. Again, no takers, just flamers. He's now droning on about how, "this is a unique piece," he has "certified papers, but not the original papers" and "no box, but who cares because you can buy a box on eBay." He also implies that the watch is relatively new. Um, I'm new to the forum, so I defer to you, more senior members, to feast your eyes upon the attached, and have at it........

Looks like a fake. The date is way off in the dial window.

Looks like an aftermarket bezel and I can tell you that the rehaut is blank, dating it back significantly and not “almost new”, Among other things.

It’s also hideous

The top left photo looks like a mop dial? Are all these photos supposed to be the same piece? From the main photo it appears the watch is not 100% genuine for certain

Oh jeez, where to start? Very annoying, but thanks for introducing me to the term "douchenozzle". Very good.

platinum574....yes, it is supposed to be the same piece. My favorite is that blurry mess of a pic he posted. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't post a blurry pic of my kid's $3 Hot Wheels car if I were seriously trying to sell it lol

Crap watch but he isn’t wrong about the box. You can easily get them on eBay.

Rolex Blowhards

There are problems with the story and the watch

It is an older DJ from the pictures and they aren’t sharp enough to say if the MOP dial is refinished. But I suspect it is aftermarket.

The date wheel is not displaying right so the dial may be cocked due to lack of proper posts for the movement.

The bezel is also aftermarket.

What’s your interest?
Considering a purchase?
I’d pass, the FMV if all was real would be $6500-ish

Ask yourself this.. Would you ever feel comfortable about the transaction after buying it from said douchenozzle?

Omg, no, I'm not at all interested in that hideous thing! I posted to create a lighthearted thread and so that we could all have a laugh at a poser's expense. My favorite part of his comments that he posts, though, is the nonsense about "certified papers, but not the original papers." WTH are "certified" papers?

Of course, there is no such thing as "certified papers"....

Certified by whom, using what accredited criteria - there is none.

I guess aftermarket (ie. Fake) diamond bezel and fake dial. Could be other issues.

Lack of rehault speaks to its age being significantly older than he lets on.

I know you're not looking at it, but if there's a chance any of your friends are possibly looking at, get them to look in the opposite direction.

I bought my wife a Datejust 116243 with MOP dial and found the same thing taking photos of it.
From one direction and/or lighting the dial looked completely flat in a photo, in another photo you can see all the striation you would expect from a MOP dial.

Agreed waste of space for a piece of garbage watch.

Lgear80....you're right...we're probably running out of space on the Internet.

I merely sought to interject some levity on the forum by passing along a FB post made by a wannabe who's bragging about a hunk of junk. I figured this would be the perfect venue for Rolex aficionados to make fun of such false and braggadocios claims.

It’s cool man... just see a lot of complete trash watches. Sometimes it’s easier not to encourage the obviously comical stuff out there

Fair point, Lgear080...when my wife showed me his post, though, I immediately thought to share the buffoonary here.

If the entire watch is authentic which I don't believe it is then it needs a major service. I am still confused on the post but this is not a heavy hitter in the watch world so rest easy knowing that.

Not that I even like the watch but this is the sort of stuff that makes a novice like me cringe when buying from someone I don’t know and not having the knowledge to determine if it’s a fake or just a cobbled together mess that’s not even close in the correct pricing so for me for now I will stick to buying from a AD or reputable Grey.

it is horrifying what the name rolex inflicts on people and this likely fake and very old watch is the pointy end of that pain.

I really think people knowingly selling fake watches belong in the criminal justice system. They get away scamming for years until finally caught. They’ve done it to hundreds I’m sure.
