1675 GMT: spotting aftermarket Pepsi bezels

Hello,
This is my first post in the Rolex Forum, even though I've been a member for some time.

I'm finally buying my grail, the GMT master 1675 (selling my 16622 Yachtmaster to fund it if anyone is interested). The one I found is a 61***** serial number from 1979, which would be a Mark 6. Everything looks good (to my relatively untrained eye) however I have a doubt about the bezel insert, essentially the "hooked" 2s.

I can find no reference of any original 1675 bezel with hooked 2s and gmtmaster1675 website warns against these bezels.

Does anyone here have more information about this?

Also, if you have feedback about any other element of the watch I'm buying that I should be aware of please let ke know.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Olivier

Yeah that's what I thought. But just for my education, what makes you say so?

It shouldn't be too expensive to replace, that's why I'm still going ahead with the transaction

The two’s are a giveaway big time... for some reason the 10 are always touching the outside where on the genuine ones they dont...
You sure the watch is real? How is the movement, share any pics?

They haven't shown me pictures of the movement yet. The serial number is there though and it's a reputable bricks and mortar store in London. They provide a certificate of warranty. If they are selling a fake they would get in big, big trouble.

I'll ask them for a photo of the movement and post here.

Thank you!

I've said this time and time again. What is deeply concerning and infuriating about the vintage watches market right now is a lot of people have no idea what they are selling or buying. I've walked into dealers and there are obvious fake or non-genuine parts on a watch but these people are selling them as genuine watches.

I will have to agree ... pretty scary seeing those hooked 2's ... it would then make me question the fidelity of the mid case and other parts on there ...

Isn't Paul Watches the owner of Bob's Watches? Is he banned because of this aftermarket bezel now?

'Paul' and Bob's are the same person. Happy to see this person has finally been removed from the TRF community. Def a bad apple with dubious business practices.

Is he really that bad or do people just have way high expectations on how much money they'll get paid for their watch?

I read this thread with great interest since I have a 1675 that my brother purchased in Vietnam while serving there. Rolex totally restored it a few years ago and installed a new bezel insert among other things at their facility in Dallas, Tx. The new insert has hook 2's on it and the circular 8's. While it may just be an optical illusion the digits appear thinner to me than the ones in your pictures here. This watch has never been worked on anywhere except at a Rolex Service center. So I'm not sure I believe that hooked 2's and round eights are a good measure of a phoney.
