I have The BLNR but my next purchase will probably be the polar. I just have to decide if I want the 5 or 6 digit.

I like the Explorer because the Polar dial is so stylish yet legible. And very pretty when the fat blue lumes come on. The 42mm size works well for me. My preference for my next two time zone watch is something completely different, which doesn't so closely resemble my Subs and to a lesser extent, my Polar.

I have both the BLNR and the black dial Explorer II 216570, I really think they are neck and neck, both great watches. I don't really understand why the EX II isn't more popular.
I actually use the EX II more. |

I have both. Wear the BLNR to work but the Exp II is my go to for casual or travel. I just like that without the PCL it is less conspicuous.

GMT Master II is my favorite although I also love the orange hand Explorer and the Explorer I.

EXP 2 16570 , 40mm. Most comfortable watch in my collection , not as common as GMT.

For me it comes down to the GMTII having the option of the third time zone. Which I will never use because i barley use the second time zone. Its like living in the middle of the desert and ordering your car with steering and seat heaters, incase you ever spontaneously decide you want to drive it half way across the planet to a cold country.. it just helps me sleep better at night.

GMT II. Because it looks better, it's smaller and has more variations to choose from.

I like the more subtle look of the Explorer. If it had a rotating bezel it would probably be my first choice, but since it is fixed I would go with the GMT. I use a rotating bezel frequently.

I actually think Explorer II looks better than GMT II but I got GMT II because it's smaller (40mm vs 42mm).
Although Explorer II is not available in PM which I prefer. |

For me... The GMTII has the edge on size, functionality, and style. The Exp II would be a contender if it goes back to 40mm and got a ceramic bezel. Then I'd like the Polar version.

I'm surprised this thread already gets 4 pages. This shows somehow the ExpII is a serious comparison/alternative to the GMTII, even though they are fundamentally different except for the gmt function.
I happen to realize the Explorer II 216570 is actually quite eye-catchy due to the size, especially the black dial version which brings an unusual contrast between the brushed conic bezel and the large black dial with its orange hand popping loudly. I kind of like it. |

Two great choices. If I could only have one, the GMT would get my vote and will be my next purchase.

Both watches are cool.
I would say they are different enough to own both. Ideally it would be the BLNR (already have) and Polar 42 for me. If they release a polar with black ceramic bezel I'll own one. |

Explorer II Polar is, in my opinion, the best value in the Rolex lineup. Have owned and worn mine for 33 years. Purchased a BLNR a few months ago, it's a wonderful Rolex that matches my cars wonderfully yet doesn't thrill me as much as the Explorer II does.
