Daytona, but I've never been the biggest AP fan. The Daytona is a lot more subtle and overall just appeals more long term.

I would much rather have the Daytona regardless of price.

AP ROC panda is one of the most incredible dials out there right now. I much prefer it to the Daytona, but at msrp, no chance I’d pass on the Daytona. Enjoy the Daytona or sell it after a year if you end up regretting the decision.

You are asking people in Rolex forum. Most will eat daytona for breakfast if it is edible. With the recent Rolex marketing / production scam playing on the market, I have already switched my attention to AP and PP. AP and PP are just another level.

Daytona. Don’t find the AP aesthetically pleasing at all.

I vote Daytona! Is it too late to add a poll? Genuinely curious how our community would vote.

If you can get a DaytonaC at MSRP, pick it up. It is a beauty.
Sizewise the 41 mm Royal Oak Chrono is better. The SS Daytona with the 39 mm bezel is a bit tiny for a chrono and the subdials are difficult to read. Probably next year AP will introduce a new RO Chrono with in house movement calibre 4401 with a transparent caseback. I think that will be worth the wait.

I like the RO a lot but not the ROC at all. Of those two choices go with the Daytona.

That AP design seems to be overdone a bit

I know right! It’s interesting how many still voted AP despite Rolex mania.
I’m wondering if I should count AP votes 2:1 in the normal world.

Tough call. I’m not at all, a fan of AP due to their style which I find outdated. I also have an issue with their RO series. The entire line was really only created to be a “luxury” watch and it’s my understanding the emphasis was really on the bracelet in the design of the piece. Nothing particularly innovative about the watch as a sport watch other than having a 1970’s design.

With all that said, I feel the Daytona is not a very functional watch. Too much shine, screw down pushers, and not enough hash marks on the subdials really render the chrono almost useless. I know, those here will disagree but I don’t use my chronos to time steaks, I use them as part of my job which requires accurate timing and functionality is a real issue. I do like the panda dial and detail on the dial on the AP. The Daytona at retail is a real value, but I would say if you plan on actually wearing the piece and using the chrono function and are ok with the style, Go AP in this case.

Good insight. Also to your point on functionality, I am in that rare minority that often uses a chronograph. If Rolex only made their watch a little larger for legibility, and would get rid of those darn screw down pushers, this would be a much easier choice.
I believe I like the aesthetics of the Daytona more than its functionality.
I guess it’s a trade off between the two.

I own them both. They wear and feel very very different. I’m not sure which I prefer. The Daytona is a better daily, but the Royal Oak is a little more special. Can’t go wrong with either.

What size is your wrist? Also would you say that the ROC is as comfortable as the Daytona?

I’m not looking for a daily since I have many watches for that. I am looking for something just a little more special then the rest, and the chrono spot is open in my watch box.
