Icon5 Help me DIY Size my Aquanaut rubber strap

Hi Folks,

I have acquired a used Aquanaut 5167. I would usually take it to an AD for sizing, but I don't know how long it will be before they open.

I'm inclined to DIY because I want to start wearing it now. Also, the strap is quite worn, so I'm likely to source a new, replacement strap down the road. In other words, I see this as a relatively low-risk DIY adventure.

I'm surprised to find very few instructions online. Those that I have found are old, and the photos are no longer available.

Please point me to resources - if you know if any. Thanks!

its really not that difficult, if you can handle a pair of scissors, you should be fine. you just cut off each segment until it properly fits. and then just attach back the clasp.

Make sure that the 6 o'clock half is shorter than the 12 o'clock half. That way the clasp will end up centered.

For those that have an Aquanaut, how do you like to size it? A little tight or a little loose?

I'm glad you said this...as my Rolex watches are all sized this way (in order to get the clasp in the middle of the wrist). However, in EVERY picture I've seen of the Aquanaut that isn't on a wrist (and for which you can see how many sections are remaining on the sized strap), it seems people are cutting the same number of sections on both sides! Which I thought was odd...but what do I know.

The guy who sized my first strap at a Patek AD salon was trying to convince me that they had to be equal length. The strap ended up either too lose or too tight and the clasp was not centered at all. When I replaced the strap I cut it myself, going slow, but having the bottom half substantially shorter than the top half. Perfect fit, not tight, not loose, clasp is perfectly centered.

Back when I had my Jumbo 5065 (rubber strap also) I ended up using 2 straps because of how my wrist would 'swell' in hot weather.
One length for cold weather, another longer length for use in hot humid weather.
When they released the 2nd generation (5167) I don't understand why Patek did not design the new clasp with adjustments to compensate for this.

I cut both halves equal and I feel the clasp is centered for me. Although, now that you said this I'm paranoid and going to check for sure.

Very true. Mine has 8 teeth at 6 and 10 at 12 on a 7 and change inch flat wrist

Agreed. With my 5164, I took this advice *really* seriously.
