Since you are an author could you please explain that last sentence to me? I read it three times and still don't know what it means. No reflection on you, it is late and I am dense.

He could have saved 10K if he had gone to Chrono24. Probably could have saved a bit more if he had haggled with the seller on C24.

This figure is also inline with a previous sale back in March 2019 of $92,500 inc buyers premium. If you go back to December 2018 one sold for $75,000 inc buyers premium. |

Incorrect. I watched it live as well. Auction hammer was 650k HKD ($82.8k) and all in posted price with all fees is 712.5k HKD which is $90.8k USD.

The price is not the actual hammer price but the price with 20% buyer commission on top.

Auctions for "common" rare steel sports models are a joke in my opinion.
Why anyone would buy a 5711 at an auction vs. getting from one of the trusted greys is beyond me. |

And yes, I said common.
Anyone who thinks the Nautilus is a rare piece is kidding themselves. :) The demand outstrips supply, but that doesn't make it "not common" -- the Nautilus is intended to be the entry-point for a younger generation into Patek's grasp. And let's not forget that it was only 2-3 years ago that no one really wanted one (Mr. Stern himself claims and admits this). |

Perhaps I misread Stern's latest interview?

Makes sense. Funny that him expressing concern that it was becoming too synonymous with the brand has led to events that make it too synonymous with the brand.

Yes I bought a 5711 out of the case in 2015 and saw many nauts in the case from 2010-2017. But saying nobody wanted the 5711 prior is incorrect. They were selling just not all presold like today.

I was talking about the same thing in Patek Philippe boutique in London a few days ago while getting mine pressure tested...
They agreed, a few years ago (2013 approx), they had them lying around, especially the white dial!?! I remember trying on 5726 and 5980 a year or so before that in my local ad, and even once a blue 5711... All just sat behind glass, hoping to be bought... I think that I was trying on the new ceramic submariner at the time, and the odd shaped Patek Philippe seemed to be worth a sniff while I was there, but ultimately just seemed, less desirable than that new maxi case submariner!!!! |

You must have a financial interest in that place!
I’ve been to the Vegas Milos. Not bad. But man I just read the Eater New York review of the Milos Hudson Yards place, not exactly an endorsement. Eater isn’t the last word I know but that review and the place is still busy. Kind of like the way Tiffany sells 5711’s with crooked stamps and they’re still hard to get. I’m just giving you a hard time for fun while watching the Dodgers on TV. |

I might have been exaggerating a bit there -- and that hyperbole worked against me rather than working towards making my point. :) But yes, you're absolutely right. There were 5711's in the case back then, even as recent as 2017. But yes, they weren't all pre-sold, and there weren't insane wait lists like today. But they also weren't *unwanted* as I said earlier. :) |

It’s easy for me to get to. My office is one of the buildings in the background. Plus it’s raining.
But I do like it. Grilled octopus, Lamb chops with fries, yogurt and honey...is my go to lunch. Edit: I’ve also been to Vegas since I live there. I would say the vegas one and the one at hudson yards is at the same level and ambiance. There was some bugs with service during the opening months at hudson yards but have since dialed it in. I genuinely enjoy my meal there every time. I prefer this vs all the other greek places in the city. |
