Question for 5711a owners
I’m finally closing in on adding a 5711a. I’ve always liked the blue dial, but suddenly the white has been pulling at me and I think it might be the way to go. I like the fact that it’s less common. But this is going to be my one and only Nautilus, so maybe I’m making a mistake not going with the blue.
Grey market price difference is not a factor since I’ll be paying MSRP. For those who own the white dial version — how has it stood the test of time in your collection? Any regrets about not getting the more iconic blue dial? If you could go back and choose again, would you still choose white over blue? Any blue owners who now have a preference for white? |

I’ve had both. I think you take what is offered. As I have 12, I want white again. I like that it’s less popular. The blue didn’t pop as much as I expected. Prefer the more brilliant blue of the platinum version

Don’t like white. It’s weird.

I have had mine about a year or so now and still love it. Being your one and only, I may hold out for blue but not sure. I always wanted, and finally got, the 5712 and that filled my blue desires. The white is really cool in my opinion however, white at some angles and silver at others. Black contrast is really stark as well, I love it and see no sale anytime soon.

Blue for the gradient vignette, but most importantly, buy what you like.

I love my white/silvery dial. As classic as the blue is, I could never get over the white date wheel, so I decided to save the blue dial for either a 5712 or 15202.

I tried the white, but went for an Aquanaut instead. I got tired of owning a white dialed Ingenieur and a white dialed IWC Mark XV.
You’ll know when you try it whether it’s your thing. |

Since it is going to be your only Nautilus I'd definitely go blue. In the unlikely event this turns out to be a mistake for you it'll be easy to go white from blue. The other way around would be a frustrating experience. I chose blue a few years ago and have had absolutely no regrets.

Got both and 12
I honestly honestly prefer white 11 Reason, better contrast with 12 and like you said, in real life, that gradient blue wasn't actually all that (heresy perhaps) |

I have both the blue and the white and I wear the white more often and I like it more than the blue. But if I were going to own only one, it would be the blue. Here's why; I am very thin skinned and insecure. Whenever I wear my white 5711 around people who know anything about watches they remark "guess you couldn't get the blue dial, huh?" I can sense their pity and it drives me nuts.
The blue dial 5711 is the ultimate "middle finger" watch. It says, either, I was able to get this at retail, cause I'm so important, or, I bought this in the grey market because I have so much money I don't care if I pay twice retail. And it does all this in a discreet way. |

Update - All replies so far have been helpful and much appreciated! I’m still on the fence, but leaning a bit towards the white. I like the matching date window, readability, relative rarity to the blue, and my personal taste leans conservative but a bit unconventional.

As your only Nautilus, I would go blue. I like white dials as well and went through the same thought process a few years back and got the blue. You can always scratch the itch for a white dial with another piece but the Nautilus blue is special.

I've owned the white 5711 since its launch, in 2012, and absolutely love it. We call it ‘white’ just for the lack of a better color name, as the dial is indeed a chameleon. Lots of ivory, silver, different shades of white depending on the light. Really beautiful. I would take it again over the blue any day. Now, is it my favorite Nauti? No, it is not. I also own the 5712 and love it beyond virtually all other watches out there.

If there is a poll, I guess blue dial would get more votes.

i think the white dial is an addendum piece AFTER you've already owned or own a blue dial. cuz if u get the white first, you will more than likely start pining for the blue very quickly. but if u get the blue first, i think more than likely the desire for the white will fade away.

So why is the blue so popular?
Is it because of the video where Aurel Bacs says it’s his favorite watch? |
