5712G Question
Hi TRF,
How difficult is it to obtain a 5712G from an AD? This is my absolute favourite Nautilus as it has the functionality, heft, and is something of a sleeper. From what I can surmise, this is the least popular of the 5712s because: (a) the dial is considered by many to be dull, as opposed to the RG version; (b) it lacks the famous Nautilus bracelet, and has a leather strap instead (which many hate it seems); and (c) is in PM and not SS, which is the hallmark of the Nautilus. I happened to see one of these the other day, and it blew me away. When I tried on the SS 5712 last year, it did nothing for me. I was impressed, but not as impressed as when I tried on the 5712G, which made quite the impression. It occurs to me that it would not be that difficult to obtain one from an AD if one was prepared to wait a year. Interestingly, the grey prices range from $5-15k over list. Clearly $15K over MSRP is high, but the premium doesn't seem as crazy as other Nautilus pieces. Best, TA |

I guess you correctly answered all your questions. it is my second favorite nautilus after the steel 5712. I hope you can find one at rrp.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not looking, just "thinking." I will be spending this year chasing a 5167, so we'll see how that goes. I was just thinking the other day about the 5712G, and the feeling that came over me if I owned it: it's an ending. The feeling I had when I thought about owning it reflected, "yep, I'm good. I'm done chasing rainbows. Don't need to own anything else, except a Q Timex for fun and my old Army watch--for those occasions when I would not wear the 5712G, which would be almost always." As its about $25k over my budget, it would require a longer acquisition run. To shoot for this piece would be to drop the 5167 and go for a 5712G in 2021. I'm far from doing that, but intrigued by the idea. If I have not acquired a 5167 by the end of the year, I may reconsider. |

I think 5-10k over the retail is exaggerated. 5712G is not difficult to get on a grey market even brand new won't cost you much. You live overseas, but you can ask dealers in Germany, they are BIG and not only for pre-owned stock. I mean you can learn more information about prices from Cologne Watch Center Düsseldorf, they always have more watches than they list on their website. They can help.

Do you think anything over MSRP for the 5712G is exaggerated? Do you think anything over MSRP simply reflects greys trying to cash in on every Nautilus--even the redheaded step child that seems to be the G? |

5712G is a very nice watch. The dial is beautiful and the combo with the grey silver works extremely well. Much nicer watch than 5167 imo, but also a different price.
I doubt you’ll find it at a grey for list price, and not easy to get at an AD, but clearly easier than the steel 5712 or the 5167. And I would much rather get the 5712G at list or small premium than pay market for the 5167... |

Absolutely. 5167s are going mad. I posted one earlier today: used, naked, for $39k. Stupid when one could pay slightly less, say $38k, and get it new, unworn. It's all silly money. |

Considering this model as well… any owner feedback?
Does the white gold feel heavier than the SS? I thought the 5712/1A felt too light on the wrist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The 5712a is slightly lighter and the weight is evenly distributed around the watch head / bracelet. The r and g are more top heavy and the strap is a little more rigid when brand new but eventually softens. The 5712a is the most comfortable watch i ever tried on. Had opportunity to buy one 4-5 years ago and low levels and instead went for the 'r' which felt more special. |

Pulling the trigger but need a small size leather strap … anyone know where to source a small size strap?
I’m also going to look for a Nautilus bracelet to try to switch to, these seem even harder to source … if any leads, please let me know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
